Anthurium clarinervium

Anthurium clarinervium has thick, heart-shaped leaves with pale vein outlines. The leaf surface is matte to slightly velvety, and the blades feel firm and thick. It forms a low crown, with new leaves coming from the centre of the plant.

It comes from Chiapas, Mexico, where it grows around limestone outcrops and can root among rocks in thin, well-drained soils. In a pot, the roots do best with structure, air and warmth, along with regular watering.

Mature leaves usually stay compact, around 11–25.5 cm long. Established plants can send up Anthurium spathes and spadices; indoors, the thick veined leaves are usually more noticeable than the flowers.

Leaves, veins and growth habit

  • Growth habit: Compact, crown-forming Anthurium.
  • Petioles: Round petioles rise from the crown and carry the thick heart-shaped leaves without a climbing stem.
  • Leaves: Thick, heart-shaped blades with deep basal lobes.
  • Mature size: Mature leaves usually stay around 11–25.5 cm long.
  • Texture: Matte dark green surface with a firm feel.
  • Venation: Pale white to greenish-white vein outlines across the blade.

Anthurium clarinervium root-zone care

  • Light: Give it bright, filtered light.
  • Watering: Let the upper part of the mix dry before watering again.
  • Moisture balance: Let air return to the mix between waterings, but water before the plant dries hard.
  • Substrate: Use a coarse, well-draining mix with bark and pumice or perlite.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally between 18–28 °C.
  • Root zone: Warm roots and a structured mix support steady growth between waterings.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves expand cleanly.
  • Airflow: Gentle airflow helps the crown and substrate dry evenly.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly and flush the mix occasionally if salts build up.
  • Repotting: Repot before the mix becomes compacted or stale.

Leaf and root issues

  • Yellowing leaves: Often indicates dense, wet substrate or cold roots.
  • Brown margins: Can follow dry air, irregular watering or salt buildup.
  • Pale or marked patches: Often develop after exposure to direct sun.
  • Distorted new leaves: Check for pests or unstable conditions during leaf expansion.
  • Soft base or sour-smelling mix: Inspect the roots straight away.

Plant safety

Keep Anthurium clarinervium away from pets and children. Plant material contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth and throat if ingested, and sap may irritate skin or eyes.

Why it is called Anthurium clarinervium

The genus Anthurium refers to the flower and its tail-like spadix. The epithet clarinervium means “clearly veined”, matching the pale vein pattern on the leaves.

Awesome filter! Nasty campground water no longer...
Style: Standard Filter
I have run these for years in my RV and they work killer! Here's some more in-depth thoughts: Pros: - These work better than I had expected. Just hook them up to the water source, hook your hose to it, run it to your trailer and viola` clean and good tasting water. Some of the places we have visited have had water that I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. With this thing attached, it's very good tasting. - I like the hose attachment that comes with this to aide in adding flexibility to the system and not put too much strain on the system. I have bought so many of these, I now use one attaching the filter to the nozzle, one out of the filter to my hose, and one attaching my hose to the trailer. Notes: - I will note that the manufacturer suggesting using these for only 1 camping season, and this makes sense. That's what I do, and it seems to work out great. It's not too much $ to replace every season. - Another note, when first putting this filter into service (just the first time of the season, subsequent hook-ups wont do this) there will be a bunch of carbon (black in the water) that comes out of the faucet in your trailer. This is perfectly fine, safe, and of no issue. This is the filter breaking in and getting the extra carbon out of the system. There is no health concern with this happening. I just run the faucet until it clears up, and then we're good to go for the rest of the season. - Last note, when we unhook from our camping spot, I swing the filter in my hand with my arm extended (using centrifugal force, not centrifical, look it up) to get the residual water out of the filter so it doesn't sit in there and spoil. I do this until I get most of the water drops to stop, leave it out on the counter to dry, and boom, it's perfect the next time. Cons: - None to report Overall this filter does a great job taking care of some seriously nasty campground water that we've encountered all over the Southwest US. I cannot recommend it any higher. Clean, Great-Tasting Water Made Easy with Camco Tastepure
Style: Standard Filter
I installed the Camco Tastepure RV inline water filter on our rig, and it’s another example of why I’ve come to trust Camco products. The reinforced strain relief hose is a small but incredibly smart feature—it keeps the connection between the filter, hose, and RV kink-free and easy to manage. Setup was simple, and the whole system feels sturdy and well-designed. A tip I’ve learned through experience: before putting a new filter into service, run water through the internal charcoal filter for 30 - 45 seconds. This flushes out any loose charcoal bits and ensures the first water you drink is crystal clean and tastes amazing. After that, connecting to the RV is straightforward, and you immediately notice how much better the water tastes. Whether filling up a glass or cooking, it’s made a real difference in our RV experience. Reliable, easy to use, and excellent tasting water every time - I highly recommend this to any RV owner who cares about water quality on the road.

works well for camping
Style: Standard Filter
I’ve used this filter on my camper for years without issues, so I installed one in my outdoor kitchen at home. It was connected to a hose bib and left under constant pressure, feeding a small electric water heater for a sink. That turned out to be a mistake. Overnight, the top of the filter housing cracked and leaked water throughout the cabinet. No idea how long it was spraying. This filter works fine for intermittent use (like camping), but it does not appear to be designed for continuous pressure. I would not recommend installing it in a permanent, always-pressurized setup.
