Alocasia longiloba 'Purple Prince'

Alocasia longiloba 'Purple Prince' has narrow, vein-marked leaves with dark green upper surfaces and purple-toned details on some growth. Pale veins, upright petioles, and pointed blades give the plant a clear longiloba profile.

Like other longiloba Alocasia, it grows from a rhizomatous base and forms upright petioles with pointed leaves. Warmth, filtered light, steady moisture, and higher humidity during unfurling keep new growth cleaner.

Dark leaves with purple-toned details

  • Leaf shape: Sagittate to narrow blades create the long, pointed outline typical of longiloba Alocasia.
  • Upper surface: Dark green leaf tissue gives strong contrast to the pale main veins.
  • Colour detail: Purple tones may appear on the underside, petioles, or new growth depending on the individual plant.
  • Growth base: The rhizomatous base prefers an airy, well-drained substrate.
  • New growth: Fresh leaves can be sensitive while unfurling and may mark if humidity is low or the plant is stressed.

Petioles, colour, and leaf development

Alocasia longiloba is known for variable leaf shape and colour, including dark upper surfaces, pale veins, and purple-toned undersides in some forms. On 'Purple Prince', the purple detail may appear on the visible leaf underside, petiole, or new growth.

The leaves are held on upright petioles from a compact rhizomatous base. Indoors, the plant responds best to filtered light, warm roots, and a potting mix that keeps moisture available while allowing air through the root zone.

Care for Alocasia longiloba 'Purple Prince'

  • Light: Place in bright filtered light. Direct sun can burn thin leaf areas and mark the pale veins.
  • Watering: Water once the upper substrate begins to dry, then allow excess water to drain fully.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix that keeps the rhizome aerated between waterings.
  • Humidity: Higher humidity helps narrow new leaves open with fewer creases and dry edges.
  • Warmth: Keep the plant away from cold draughts and cold wet substrate.
  • Cleaning: Wipe leaves gently when needed, as mites often settle on stressed Alocasia foliage.

Stress signs on purple-toned leaves

  • Stuck new leaves: Low humidity or root stress can cause new leaves to crease, tear, or open unevenly.
  • Brown edges: Thin leaf sections can dry after low humidity, direct sun, or irregular watering.
  • Fading older leaves: One older leaf fading can be normal, but repeated yellowing points to wet, cold, or damaged roots.
  • Soft base: A soft rhizome area needs immediate attention to substrate moisture and drainage.
  • Pests: Spider mites and thrips can cause speckling, scarring, and distorted new growth.

Safety

Alocasia longiloba 'Purple Prince' is not pet-safe. It contains insoluble calcium oxalates that can irritate the mouth, throat, and stomach if ingested, so keep it away from pets and children.

Botanical background and origin

Alocasia longiloba is an accepted Araceae species first published by Miquel in 1856 in Flora van Nederlandsch Indie. The genus name Alocasia was formed in relation to Colocasia, a closely allied aroid genus, while the epithet “longiloba” means long-lobed and refers to the extended leaf lobes. The species occurs from southern China to western and central Malesia in wet tropical habitats.

Color: Shades of Blue
The straps is really tight, so it is hard to hold and maneuver. Colors are what I expected. The ability to clean screens is OK

Cleans without damaging
Color: Blossom
Great little item for laptops, tablets, phone ,etc. Cleans the screen without any damage. Love the strap which makes it easier to use. The cleaning side is soft and smooth while the strap side is harder and makes it sturdier when cleaning. Another great product from Fintie!

This cleans your IPhone so it looks like glass. The finger prints do come back as easy. I have given these away and everyone likes them. Better than the cloth.

Simple and Effective Remote Organization
Color: Black, Size: Small
The Pros: Spacious Design: With five deep pockets, there is plenty of room to store everything from TV and soundbar remotes to reading glasses. Functional and Steady: It sits perfectly on a side table without tipping over. It does exactly what I hoped it would do by keeping all our remotes in one spot. Great Portability: It is lightweight enough to move around easily, which is helpful for keeping things organized while we are on the move. Clean Finish: The material looks professional and blends in well with the furniture without looking like a cheap plastic holder. The Cons: Pocket Depth: One thing to keep in mind is that the pockets are fairly deep. If you have very small remotes, they can slide down a bit far, making them slightly trickier to grab quickly. Bottom Line: This is a straightforward, no-fuss solution if you are tired of losing remotes in the couch cushions. It is well-made, looks good, and simply works. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to declutter their living space.
