The Lemon Lime Maranta, known as the Lemon Lime Prayer Plant, is a unique and vibrant variety of the Maranta leuconeura which is the main Prayer plant, beloved for its striking foliage and low-growing, tropical appeal. This plant derives its common name from the vivid lemon and lime hues that streak across its leaves in delicate, vein-like patterns.

As a member of the prayer plant family, the leaves of Maranta leuconeura lemon lime move with the light, folding up in the evening in a gesture that resembles hands clasped in prayer. With its eye-catching colors and fascinating leaf movement, the Lemon Lime Maranta is a popular houseplant, providing visual interest and a touch of exotic indoor spaces.

Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, the lemon-lime prayer plant features lively, variegated foliage that displays movement throughout the day.

Its oval-shaped leaves showcase soft, symmetrical patterns of veining, with a mix of pale yellow, lime green, and deeper green tones. It can grow up to 12 inches tall and 12 inches wide. This makes them an ideal size for tabletops, shelves, or smaller plant stands, where they can add a burst of color without overwhelming a space.

The plant’s relatively low-growing nature and full, bushy appearance make it a fantastic option for filling smaller spaces with lush, tropical greenery.

The undersides of the leaves have a reddish-purple tint, adding an extra layer of visual appeal. The plant’s leaves respond to light by adjusting their position: they lower and spread outward in daylight and lift to an upright, closed position at night, a movement known as “nyctinasty.”

The Lemon lime Maranta flowers are typically white or light lavender and grow on slender stalks, emerging in clusters above the leaves during the spring. Though the flowers are subtle compared to the vibrant foliage, they add a charming touch when they appear. However, flowering is more common outdoors or under ideal humidity and light conditions indoors.

In its native habitat, it grows as a ground cover, spreading low along the forest floor under the shade of taller trees. This preference for humidity and indirect light makes it ideal for indoor environments that can mimic these conditions. As an indoor plant, it’s accustomed to low light and doesn’t require direct sun, making it a versatile choice for many home settings.

When and How to Water Your Lemon Lime Prayer Plant

The Lemon Lime Maranta is a drought-resistant plant, preferring consistently moist soil to thrive. Unlike hardy plants that can withstand dry spells, the Lemon Lime Maranta requires careful attention to its watering needs.

In the spring and early fall, during the growing season, the Lemon Lime Maranta requires more frequent watering to support its vibrant foliage and new growth. At this time, water it about once every 5–7 days or whenever the top inch of soil begins to feel dry to the touch. It's essential to water thoroughly, ensuring that moisture reaches the roots. However, avoid letting the plant sit in water, as it dislikes soggy conditions and can suffer from root issues if left overly wet.

In late fall and winter, as the plant enters its dormant period in the cooler months, its water needs decrease. Watering can be spaced out every 10–14 days, depending on the humidity and indoor temperature. Keep an eye on the soil’s top layer, and only water once it feels dry to the touch. This reduced frequency allows the plant to rest without becoming dehydrated, as the Lemon Lime Maranta conserves its energy during this time.

Using distilled or filtered water is recommended, as Marantas are sensitive to minerals and chemicals commonly found in tap water. Chemicals like fluoride can cause leaf tip browning or yellowing. Distilled water helps you maintain the vibrant leaf color without risking potential buildup issues, ensuring that your Maranta continues to look healthy and stunning year-round.

Light Requirements – Where to Place Your Lemon Lime Maranta

When grown indoors as a houseplant, the Lemon Lime Maranta thrives in low to medium indirect light for at least 4 to 6 hours, making it an excellent houseplant for rooms without direct sunlight exposure. Place them near a window where they can receive filtered sunlight or in a location with artificial light sources, such as fluorescent or grow lights.

Direct sunlight can scorch the delicate leaves of the plant, so it's essential to protect them from harsh rays. Rotating the plant occasionally can ensure even light exposure on all sides, promoting uniform growth and preventing leggy growth due to reaching for light.

For outdoor growth, select a shaded or partially shaded spot. These plants prefer dappled sunlight or areas with indirect light to prevent leaf burning and maintain their vibrant colors.

Avoid placing them in the full sun, as excessive sunlight can cause leaf damage and stress the plant. When transitioning your plant outdoors, acclimate it gradually to the increased light levels to prevent shock.

Providing a sheltered outdoor location with gentle morning sunlight or filtered light throughout the day can create vibrant foliage.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

When selecting soil for your Maranta lemon lime plant, it's best to choose a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix designed for tropical plants, or a combination of peat moss, perlite, and compost can provide the right balance of moisture retention and drainage. Avoid heavy soils that can lead to waterlogged conditions, which may harm the plant's roots. Planet Desert has specialized potting soil, opens in a new tab that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your lemon lime prayer plant to thrive. Repotting the plant every couple of years can also refresh the soil and provide necessary nutrients for continued growth.

The Lemon Lime prayer plant benefits from water-soluble NPK fertilizer with an equal ratio of about 5-10-5, once a year from spring through early fall. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can cause salt buildup in the soil and lead to nutrient imbalances. During the plant's dormant period in winter, reduce or stop fertilization to allow the plant to rest. Observing the plant's growth and adjusting the fertilizer regimen accordingly can help maintain its health and vibrancy.

Following the instructions on the fertilizer package regarding dilution and frequency of application is essential to prevent fertilizer burn and support balanced growth.

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing the Lemon Lime prayer plant indoors as a houseplant, it thrives in average room temperatures ranging from 65°F to 80°F. Maintaining a consistent temperature within this range is essential for the plant's overall health and growth. Avoid placing the plant near drafts, air conditioning vents, or heating sources that can cause temperature fluctuations and stress the plant. Providing a stable temperature environment can help the plant flourish and prevent issues such as leaf curling or browning. When grown indoors, especially in environments with dry air, increasing humidity around the plant can promote healthy growth and prevent issues like leaf browning or crispy edges. You can boost humidity by placing a humidifier near the plant, grouping plants together to create a microclimate, or using a pebble tray filled with water.

For outdoor growth, the Lemon Lime prayer plant is typically suited for USDA zones 11 and 12, where temperatures remain consistently warm throughout the year. These zones generally experience mild winters with minimal risk of frost, which is crucial for tropical plants like the Lemon Lime prayer plant.

In tropical or subtropical regions with naturally high humidity, the plant can benefit from the ambient moisture in the air to maintain its lush appearance and vibrant foliage. If you live in a region outside these zones, consider growing the plant in containers that can be brought indoors during colder months to protect it from low temperatures and frost damage.

Wildlife – Lemon Lime Maranta Attracts the Following Friendly Pollinators

The flowers of the Lemon Lime Maranta plant are known to attract pollinators and insects through their unique characteristics. These flowers often have bright colors or intricate patterns that act as visual cues to attract pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Toxicity: According to the ASPCA, the Lemon Lime prayer plant is considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, horses, and humans. It is a safe choice for households with pets, providing a touch of greenery without posing a significant risk to animal companions.

How to Propagate Your Lemon Lime Prayer Plant

To propagate your Lemon Lime prayer plant, you can use stem cuttings. Here's how to do it: Select a healthy stem with several leaves and cut it just below a leaf node. Remove the lower leaves to expose the node where roots will develop. Place the cutting in water or a well-draining soil mix, ensuring the node is submerged or in contact with the soil. Keep the cutting in a warm, humid environment with indirect sunlight and regularly mist the plant to maintain moisture levels. Over time, roots will develop, and you'll notice new growth indicating successful propagation. Once the roots are established, you can transplant the cutting into a separate pot for further growth.

Solid timepiece from Timex
Color: Black/Black/Brown, Color: Black/Black/Brown
Style: T49905 - blk/blk/brown leather band Easy to read, watch face is well laid out and I like the contrast of the numbers against the background. It's been a while since I had a watch with Indiglo so it was nice to see that again. However, with the white hands, it's a little tough to read in the dark when the backlight is on, though it does have glow in the dark hands. Watch has a heavy, quality feel to it. Well constructed, like it may take a knock or two. Much beefier than any of the previous Timex watches I've owned. I was concerned about the crown size and it hitting the back of my hand in certain positions but it seems to be fine. I feel it but it's not nearly as prominent as I thought. If you have bad eyes like me, it may be tough to read without glasses on. The band fits well after oiling the leather --- cuts down drastically on break-in time. It always seems like I'm right in between two of the settings so oiling will help the band stretch a little in the tighter position. The color is pretty light fresh out of the box and the thread contrast is pretty retro. I found that oiling it also helped sort of detune that a little bit. I'm always one of those types that has to mod something the second I take it out of the box or it just isn't going to work. Oiling the leather band was the trick. I was on the fence and considering ordering a different one until I took a few minutes and hand rubbed some leather oil in to get it much darker and more pliable. Super comfortable. And thick, too. Seems like it will hold on for a few years. I bought a "used" one for a slightly discounted price -- in this economy, ffs!? Arrived just fine, intact, no signs of having been worn, just out of its original box and returned. Arrived in a factory box on factory wrist holder for the band, instructions were included, and arrived with a fresh battery installed -- just need to remove the tab to engage time and start the watch. Also, register the lifetime warranty. You'll likely never need to anything other than change the battery but if you ever do, they'll fix it for free. Also, I am not affiliated with Timex in any way. I'm just hopped up on the watch I just got and feel like writing a nice review about it. Highly recommended watch and happy to replace that $60 smartwatch. I was ready to get back to a real time piece. Nice choice!

Nice Watch... But Buyer Beware!
Color: Black/Black/Black, Color: Black/Black/Black
This is a great looking and very functional watch for the price, so I was very disappointed to find it didn't work properly. Close examination revealed a tiny plastic collar preventing the crown from being fully depressed as necessary. I'm aware most new watches come with a small plastic tab that must be removed to activate the watch: this was not that. Those tabs are designed to be easily removed with one's fingertips. This collar (shown in the photo) was barely accessible due to the crown, and could not be removed even with fine-tipped watch repair tools. I contacted Timex customer support and sent them the photo. They evaded my question as to what the collar was and why it was there, but confirmed it needed to be removed for the watch to function, suggesting I bring it to a jeweler/watch repair shop. Well, the watch isn't such a bargain anymore if I've got to pay someone to get it to work -- so I returned it and requested a replacement. Wouldn't you know it? The replacement had the same stupid plastic collar preventing it from working. This time I decided to see if I could fix it myself. I removed the case back with a pry knife, removed the plastic battery cover, used a pin-punch to release the watch stem, and fully removed the stem from the case, finally freeing the offending plastic collar. Pretty straightforward if you have the tools. Reassembly was trickier, as two miniscule push bars fell out when the plastic battery cover was removed. These allow the chronograph pushbuttons to activate the stopwatch. They're smaller than a grain of rice and sit loosely within tiny channels in the battery cover, so they are very prone to falling out as the cover is put back in place. It took several attempts to get the battery cover situated with them still seated. Then it was just a matter of carefully placing the watch in a case press to snap the case back in place. Once reassembled, the watch worked fine. I replaced the rubber strap with a NATO strap, and it's now a favorite daily beater watch. I'm astounded no other reviewers seem to have encountered this issue when I encountered it TWICE, but I've detailed it here in case others run into the same problem. Disassembling the watch to remove the troublesome plastic collar isn't that big a deal if you have watch repair tools and steady hands -- but if that's not you, you might have to decide whether it's worth paying a jeweler to repair your brand new watch.

Highly recommended for a first-time buyer!
Color: Black/Black/Black
As a newcomer to the world of watch collecting, I wanted my first serious piece to be something reliable, functional, and stylish. After spending some time with the Timex Expedition Field Chronograph, I can safely say it exceeded my expectations. Design and Build Quality The first thing that caught my eye was the color palette. The earthy, rugged tones give it a great "field watch" look that works for both daily wear and outdoor adventures. Despite its 43mm size, the weight feels substantial without being overbearing. The finish is impressive for this price point; it feels incredibly durable and well-built, like it can actually handle the "Expedition" name. Readability and Function I was initially a bit worried that the chronograph sub-dials might make the face look cluttered, but I found it surprisingly easy to read. Once you get used to the layout, tracking the time at a glance is a breeze. The "Killer Feature": INDIGLO The standout feature is definitely the INDIGLO backlight. It is, quite simply, excellent. It makes reading the time in low-light or total darkness effortless. It’s one of those features you don’t realize how much you need until you have it. Final Verdict For anyone just starting their collection, this watch offers a perfect blend of style and utility. It feels like a tool that is built to last, and I’m really happy with how it looks on the wrist. Highly recommended for a first-time buyer!

Uncompromising Quality at Every Price Point
I really like this watch. The case and back are made of steel and it is substantial. The glass is very hard and clear. The writing on the face is subtly three dimensional (it’s not just printed on the surface). Even the three circles on the face have very precise, slightly raised concentric circles. It’s a little hard to see the black hour and minute hand agains the military green watch face in low light. But it is also what makes this watch aesthetically unique. I am a little confused as to why the second hand is bright yellow, but the hour and minute hand are not outlined in yellow. If you are in sunlight, it’s easy to read the time. I got the version with the rubber band. I like that a lot too. Soft, substantial, pliable. Very comfortable. Timex is consistently high quality for each price point (ranging from $20 resin cases to $2,000 titanium). If you pay more, the materials and details match that price. But, the quality is always uncompromising. And their watches are both simple and aesthetically pleasing.

Great watch, but serious design flaw; Not expedition worthy.
Color: Black/Black/Brown
This is a great watch. Love the metal casing, band, and aesthetic design. Although it looks and 'feels' rugged, it is not worthy for the man of adventure. Let me explain. The middle knob of the watch (the main knob that you push for light/pull to set time) is a bit large and too exposed for its own good. This makes the knob vulnerable to any stress. Example, if you flex your wrist/hand backwards throughout your adventures, whether pushing yourself off the ground or climbing over rocks, the back of your hand places pressure on the knob. The knob eventually reacts to this stress by breaking off. The knob has a little metal stem behind it that appears to be made of lower quality metal. This knob is crucial to the watch as it is used to set the time (by pulling and turning knob). Without it, the watch is useless regarding time. If you are having difficulty understanding the hand/wrist stress, think of yourself in a push-up position while wearing the watch. The back of your hand places stress on the knob which is exacerbated by the angle of the watch strapped in that position. Perhaps I had a fluke, but this same problem happened on 3 watches. Yes, I loved this watch so much, that I purchased it 2 more times. The knob on the first one broke after being in the field doing archaeology, the second in an outdoor adventure, and the 3rd occurred by simply pushing myself off the floor after lying down. The knob broke off in all 3. This is a design flaw combined with low quality metal for the metallic rod behind the knob. If you look at a few other Timex 'expedition' models, you'll see the case is molded to the sides of the knob, protecting it from stress. This particular model could use something like that. I really loved this watch and still do. But I cannot recommend it to men who do active things. If you have a simple life working in the office and come home to the couch, this watch will suit you fine. For all others who move their hands in all sorts of directions, beware of this watch.
