Description

crinum lily white Crinum x powellii 'Album' - White Crinum Lily - 1 bulbThe white crinum lily has to be one of my favorites. It is tough and repeatedly blooms prolific white blooms on three to four foot scapes with numerous flowers from spring through early summer. It starts blooming on the heals of the color from the hardy amaryllis and Byzantine gladiolus. The robust foliage of this crinum curves a little more than others, and it is a nice glossy green color that is attractive even when the plant is not in bloom. Crinum

The white crinum lily has to be one of my favorites.

Crinum powellii comes in two different colors, pink and white. It is one of the most cold hardy of all the crinums, but that in no way means that it can not stand the heat. Some of the toughest, oldest crinums we have are these white crinum flowers. My mentor, Dr. Bill Welch, coined the phrase that "no crinum in the South has ever died."

We have seen these tough white crinum growing in many different locations. I was in South Carolina at a plantation where I first saw one blooming in the middle of a VERY hot and humid day - I can only wonder how long that crinum had been planted there and where it came from. Some of our white crinum come from the original home of a Texas Revolutionary War fighter who moved the crinum from his original home in Georgia. Lastly, in 2009 when leading a garden tour across England and the Jersey Islands, I spotted a nice established clump in the Chelsea Physic Garden (founded in 1673). It is exciting to see a plant doing well in so many different areas of the world!

During the winter, as most crinums do in colder areas, the foliage will die down completely. This opens up an opportunity to plant other winter growing bulbs to hide the foliage and barren stalks of the crinum. Lycoris radiata, Narcissus tazetta Grand Primo, and other strong winter bulb foliage plants are good choices and allow you to pack in more color into more spaces. In the summer, skirt its base and garden borders with the complimentary pink rain lilies (Habranthus robustus) that bloom at the same time!

Large bulbs are 1) quicker in their life to dividing and producing more offsets (babies) and 2) have a higher likelihood of larger and more blooms the first year.

All sizes will eventually produce the same beautiful blooms

Size Approximate Bulb Size Bloom & Growth Notes
Small Small bulb Will take a couple of years to produce good, full blooms; smaller bulbs simply take a bit longer to reach full size
Regular Baseball size or larger Not yet full size but will produce good blooms; it will begin multiplying sooner than small bulbs
Jumbo Softball size or larger The most mature bulb available — quickest to reach full size and multiply.

Plant now in good garden soil with plenty of sun. Water regularly during the hot dry months of summer. They will bulk up and multiply quickly!

Crinums don't like to be moved so they won't bloom for you this year, but give them time to get adjusted and enjoy the display of blooms next year!

Great shoes
Size: 10, Color: Grey, Size: 10, Color: Grey
I got 2 pairs of these specifically for a water rafting trip. The first pair was a little large, so I went down a half size ( and gave the larger pair to my son). They are comfortable, even for wide feet - although after a long day of use in the water, there was some chaffing on the outsides of my feet. It loosened up a bit across my wide foot, after getting wet. These worked great! They have adjustable strap across the back, that pulls tight on the outside. the laces are elastic and tighten by pulling and then pushing the stopper down onto the laces. They didn't slip (loosen) but, to get them tight, I had excessive amount of laces hanging out (had to tuck them into the tongue.

Exactly what I was looking for
Size: 9-9.5, Color: Black Denim Blue
Perfect for what I wanted in an active casual shoe. Love the tread, it's both grippy and durable but flexible, the fit, adjustability, easy to take on and off, perfect amount of cushion and stability. Can wear with or without socks comfortably.

Excellent value!
Size: 10.5, Color: Black
Very well Made. Just received these and was surprised at the quality of the materials and they way they look. Much higher quality than the oriental point. They are comfortable and fit very well. I ordered 10.5, nice room in the box. I have not worn them yet, first impressions are positive. I will update after wearing them for awhile. So far, very happy with the purchase! Black and orange color looks great!

Perfect fit
Size: 9-9.5, Color: Blue/Grey
I think these shoes are excellent. I ordered a pair which arrived after 2 days. Contrary to some reviews I do not find these water shoes a tight fit at all. And I have bunions. Indeed I find them very comfortable. I have used them in water and as advertised they drain dry pretty quickly. In short I am delighted with the shoes. So much so that I ordered a second pair. Different colour of course. They just arrived and I am wearing them now. Same size and just as comfortable. Thank you.

One day of use, then it rubbed against my toes and caused cuts
Size: 9-9.5, Color: Black Denim Blue, Size: 9-9.5, Color: Black Denim Blue
I got these right before a trip to Costa Rica where we would be doing a lot of hiking, some tubing, and be in and out of water. They felt great when I first tried them on and I was optimistic. Our first day, we hiked a total of about 5 miles in the forest and along a river, with some swimming in pools throughout the hike. These weren't difficult trails, but a mix of gravel, rock, dirt, etc. The shoes felt fantastic and were comfortable all day. Later that evening, after they had mostly dried out, we did another mile or so to some other pools and I had no problem. During that hike I was so happy I was actually talking to my kids about what great things I was going to say in a review. The following day however, as soon as I put on the sandals, just walking to the hotel pool, the top of the shoe, just above my big toes, was bending and rubbing against my toes. It was very noticeable and I took them off and made sure there was no sand or anything else causing the irritation. I had no other choice that day and we ended up back on a similar trail, hiking a total of about 1.5 miles, with it rubbing against my toes the entire time. I tried both tightening and loosening the shoes and changing my stride to step more flat footed so they wouldn't bend at the back of my step, but that didn't help. Neither did getting them wet again, hoping to soften something up. By the time we were half way through that hike, there were visible raw spots on top of both my big toes. By the time we were done, they had become sores and very painful. The following day, we walked on the sidewalk to breakfast about three blocks away and it hurt bad enough that I found a store and bought a pair of flip-flops instead. I haven't worn the sandals since. I can't tell exactly what's going on inside the shoe, but I think the leathery part of the shoe is pushing down at the natural break in the toe area when I step, and the mesh is rubbing. Since I've worn them outside and been swimming in them, I can't return them, but they're basically useless after one good day.
