5 Nepenthes seeds. The tropical pitcher plant, or Nepenthes, is a unique genus in the pitcher plant family, with over 100 known species. They are native to Southeast Asia, Australia, India, and Madagascar, mainly found in the humid tropics and grow at varying altitudes. Nepenthes can be either semi-shrubs or vines, depending on the species. Their leaves have three parts: a leaf-shaped part, a tendril used for clinging, and a cup-shaped trap at the end of the tendril.

Nepenthes are carnivorous and have passive pitfall traps that lure prey with scent or color. The rim of the cup contains nectar that attracts the prey, which then falls in and is digested by the highly acidic liquid at the bottom of the cup. The trap withers after about three months, and the lid serves as protection against rainwater.

Growing Instructions

To start Nepenthes seeds, chopped live sphagnum moss can be used in damp conditions, and overgrown sphagnum can be pinched back with forceps. Dried long fibered sphagnum can also be used by rehydrating it with boiling water, but overcooking it can cause molding. Coir, which has a 50% to 75% content of long fibers, is another effective option. Seeds should be sprinkled onto the medium's surface, sprayed with pure water, and placed in plastic bags in warm temperatures. Germination can take 4 weeks - up to a year.

Cute toy that definitely entertains the pups.
These are adorable toys. They make a bit more noise than I expected as they have the crackly ‘stuff’ in the legs. My mastiff made it a whole day without destroying it. This is the first toy that’s survived him for more than 10 minutes, so that’s an endorsement even if it sounds bad. They are a great price for the size. If I were to say I have a wish for them, it’s that the material that makes up their belly was more durable.

Durability Not So Good
The size is great and having squeakers in all tentacles is super for the puppy but had to sew a seam withing one week of having it. Hoping the rest stays together.

Long lasting and fun
This toy has lasted longer than other octopus toys I've bought in the past. Even if a leg or two is ripped off, it still holds on.

Awesome product, but NOT sturdy
My dog LOVED this product, but unfortunately the head came off in less than a week.

Glad this toy is back
Large soft dog toy. I have been trying to buy this item for years. It apparently was discontinued, but it finally has been replaced with an even better, more durable product. I have two large chocolate labs and they have yet to gut it. It is reasonable durable, but I suppose a determined dog could eventually rip into it. I will definitely again. Large grunting noise maker in the body, and small squeakers in the arms.
