Anthurium Luxurians

A Colombian endemic and one of the most immediately recognizable species in the entire genus — Anthurium luxurians produces a leaf unlike almost anything else in cultivation: deeply, dramatically bullate across the entire blade surface, with each interveinal section raised into a pronounced convex blister that catches and reflects light differently from every angle, creating a three-dimensional quilted topography that reads as almost architectural in its regularity and depth. The surface finish compounds the effect further — where most bullate anthuriums carry a matte or semi-glossy surface, luxurians is deeply, almost lacquered glossy, so that each raised section between the sunken veins acts as a small reflective panel. New growth emerges in dark chocolate to reddish-bronze tones before hardening to the deep, rich, iridescent dark green of maturity, with a metallic sheen that shifts subtly in changing light. Unlike most collector velvets which are hemiepiphytic climbers, luxurians grows as a terrestrial on shaded, rocky forest floors at lower elevations — generally below 800 meters in its Colombian range — where consistent high humidity and moderate temperatures prevail year-round. It is a genuinely slow-growing species, producing leaves one at a time with considerable rest between them, which combined with its extraordinary leaf quality has made it a benchmark specimen in serious aroid collections worldwide and a foundational parent in an enormous range of hybrid crosses. The species was formally placed in section Cardiolonchium and its closest relatives include A. forgetii and A. regale, though its bullate surface sets it apart visually from all of them.

As a low-elevation Colombian terrestrial, luxurians prefers warm and consistently humid conditions without the cool nights that benefit many Andean cloud forest anthuriums — maintaining 65-80°F year-round with stable rather than fluctuating temperatures suits it best. Provide moderate to bright indirect light; it grows on shaded rocky forest floors in nature and is more tolerant of lower light than many velvet species, though too little light slows an already slow grower further and reduces the glossy iridescence of the mature leaves. Allow the medium to approach dryness in the top inch or two between waterings — it is notably susceptible to root rot and benefits from a very open, free-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent aeration. Humidity of 70-80% is essential for maintaining the glossy bullate surface and supporting healthy leaf emergence. Feed lightly with balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.

Second handle too high up on leash
Color: Black, Size: Large
Slip lead length provides your reactive dog with too much range to lunge. The second handle is great but it is too high up on the leash. If the slip lead length was shorter and the second handle was lower, this product would be awesome.

Great lead alternative!
Color: Blue, Size: Large
This works great for an alternative to just a slip lead. I work in a kennel and it makes it a lot easier to grip for the dogs that pull a lot.

Won’t stay in place
Color: Blue, Size: Large
While the leash was nicely made, the lead would not stay in place. The slide to hold the “O” ring in place kept sliding there for the leash would loosen. The padded handle was nice for sure
