A compact native shrub with unforgettable winter color

Red Sprite Winterberry Holly is one of the best shrubs for homeowners who want the landscape to keep giving long after the growing season winds down. Through spring and summer, it looks clean, green, and understated, but once fall arrives and the leaves drop, the plant transforms into a brilliant display of bright red berries. That dramatic winter show is what makes Red Sprite such a standout choice for borders, wildlife gardens, and high-visibility planting areas.

Heavy berry set is the feature that makes this plant shine

The berries are the reason most homeowners fall in love with Red Sprite Winterberry Holly. They are bright, saturated red, carried densely along the stems, and persistent enough to create strong color well into winter. In a dormant landscape filled with brown stems and bare branches, this compact winterberry adds real energy and contrast without relying on flowers or evergreen foliage to make its impact.

A smaller habit makes it easier to place in residential landscapes

Red Sprite is especially valuable because it gives homeowners the beauty of winterberry in a more compact form. It stays much smaller than many older winterberry selections, which makes it easier to use in foundation beds, front-yard borders, rain gardens, and smaller mixed shrub plantings. Homeowners who want winter interest without dedicating space to a large shrub often find this variety much easier to work into an existing landscape plan.

Excellent for wildlife gardens, rain gardens, and seasonal focal points

This deciduous holly is especially useful where a planting needs both strong winter interest and ecological value. It fits beautifully into native plantings, bird-friendly gardens, low spots with consistent moisture, and mixed shrub borders where the berry show can be appreciated after leaf drop. It is also a smart seasonal focal point near windows, driveways, or front entries where the bright berries can be enjoyed from indoors and out.

Berry production depends on pollination, and moisture matters

Red Sprite Winterberry Holly performs best in full sun to partial shade and in acidic soil that stays evenly moist but still drains reasonably well. It is notably more tolerant of wet conditions than many landscape shrubs, which makes it useful in rain gardens and moisture-retentive sites. Because Red Sprite is a female winterberry, it needs a compatible male pollinator nearby for heavy berry production, with Jim Dandy being the classic pairing for this early-blooming selection.

Seriously underrated!
Format: Kindle
I just happened up this book by a fairly new queer writer and instantly fell in love with this book! Like head over heels, couldn't put it down in love. The first paragraph had me laughing, and those laughs carried on throughout the book. But on the flip side, the story will have you in tears of empathy for the main character as she navigates her life with the continued loss of her big brother and biggest supporter. Lastly, these two main characters are ones you root for from the word go!!

Beautiful sapphic story
Format: Kindle
This neurodivergent sapphic romance was everything I wanted in a book. Seeing the messing sides of both characters and seeing them come together was beautiful. Relationships are hard. Being neurodivergent is really really hard. The author somehow got it into these pages and it's beautiful.

pretty cute, mediocre writing
Format: Kindle
Its okay and cute story and characters but writing feels cringey and lazy at times. I also tended to find the main characters sometimes annoying

flawed and sweet
Format: Kindle
While the premise of the book was endearing, it quickly felt under-researched and over-represented. Giving characters mental health diagnoses while describing only surface level or self-diagnosed criteria makes the characters feel stereotypical and under-developed. The manic-like decision making of one of the main characters is often used as a plot point, making it feel like a gimmick to blame the character’s “neurodivergence”. Had there been better research and understanding into mental health diagnoses, and less stereotypically representation, it would have been easier to enjoy. Aside from that I liked the premise of the plot and found the build of found family, friendship, and love to be sweet.

Perfect spring romcom!
Format: Paperback
What a beautiful story about finding the life and partner that works for you. I may need to go buy a flower farm and come right back! If you want a book with the most perfect spring vibes this is it! I loved that Opal and Pepper had such complementary skills when it came to the flower farm. Opal bought a flower farm for the vibes and without Pepper would have had absolutely no hope of maintaining it. Honestly relatable. I loved seeing them working together and learning to understand one another. I also loved how this story explored neurodivergence and the different strengths and struggles it can bring. Opal's experience of being neurodivergent is dissimilar to other descriptions I have read and I really appreciated it. I became a reader because I love seeing how people's minds work differently but with how much I read it's unusual that I come across a character who really stands out. Opal is one who does. If you want a story that is the perfect escapism while also being very grounded in issues and experiences people have then this is the perfect fit! I love reading books about things that sound so incredibly cool, like owning a flower farm, but I would be completely terrible at! I'm over here like maybe I do need a flower farm and my half-dead houseplants are judging me. Thanks to St. Martins Press!
