Ficus lyrata - Fiddle Leaf Fig

Ficus lyrata, commonly known as the Fiddle Leaf Fig, is a popular evergreen shrub or small tree known for its large, violin-shaped leaves with prominent veining. Its bold, glossy foliage brings a dramatic and tropical feel to indoor spaces, making it a sought-after houseplant for contemporary and classic decor alike. Growing up to 1–3 meters indoors, Fiddle Leaf Fig is ideal as a focal point in living rooms, offices, and atriums.

Position

Fiddle Leaf Fig thrives in bright, indirect light, although it can tolerate some direct sunlight for a few hours each day. It prefers well-drained, fertile soil and performs best in warm, humid indoor environments. While it can be grown outdoors in tropical and subtropical climates, it should be placed in a sheltered location, protected from strong winds, frost, and intense afternoon sun.

Growth

This slow to moderate-growing indoor tree reaches a mature height of 1–3 meters with a spread of about 1 meter, developing a strikingly upright and architectural form. Its large, glossy leaves make it a statement plant, adding height and lush greenery to interior spaces.

Planting Guide

Ficus lyrata grows best in a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture but doesn’t stay soggy. When potting, use a container with drainage holes, and position the plant in a location with bright, indirect light. For outdoor planting in suitable climates, select a protected, partially shaded area. Water thoroughly after planting, and add a layer of mulch to retain moisture if grown outdoors.

Plant Care

Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, allowing the top few centimeters to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot. Fiddle Leaf Fig benefits from a balanced, liquid houseplant fertiliser applied every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer. Clean the leaves occasionally to remove dust and enhance their shine, and rotate the plant periodically to promote even growth. Prune as needed to control height and shape, or to encourage a bushier form.

Dogs love them
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 2)
Our dogs love these. What’s great is that you can add more plastic (like from water bottles) if the plastic starts to fall out from the center. If you have a chewer, though, these won’t last you long. Our shepherd mix loves these and then starts to pull the rubber apart the more she plays with it. Our other dogs treat it normally, though, and those ones last forever. They also get some decent height when bounced, and they make a unique whistling noise when thrown.

Our pup loves the cronch cronch!
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
I bought our 15 month old Coton several Chuck-It toys on an Amazon deal. He is incredibly playful, mischievous, and ball/toy obsessed, especially for anything that makes noise. He can also be very destructive so I love how durable most of their products are - they’re among our longest lasting toys and worth every penny. We have yet to take them to the dog park, but they’re a perfect size for sharing in play time. And they are keeping him busy at home - that’s a good thing. He loves investigating the crunchy-cronchy-crinkly sound which is a nice change from squeakers. It can withstand his destructive chewing well-being, gentle on his little teeth. I love that. Chuck-It is thinking outside the box with a variety of balls to keep dogs engaged! I do worry about the crinkle plastic inside because it is accessible because of the air holes and it feels a little sharp. So this will have to be an at home toy so we can monitor his play.
