Serrano peppers are a classic Mexican variety known for their bright flavor, higher heat, and excellent productivity. Similar in appearance to jalapeños but smaller and noticeably hotter, Serranos are a go-to pepper for authentic salsas and fresh dishes.

  • Plant height at shipping: Approx. 4” tall

About the Serrano Pepper

The Serrano is a Capsicum annuum variety native to Mexico, prized for its clean heat and fresh pepper flavor. Plants are highly productive and can grow up to 5 feet tall, producing 50 or more peppers per plant.

Peppers typically grow 1–4 inches long and can be harvested green or allowed to ripen to red, offering slightly sweeter notes at full maturity. Serranos are significantly hotter than jalapeños, making them ideal for dishes where heat and flavor both matter.

  • Heat Level: Medium hot (typically 10,000–25,000 Scoville Heat Units)

  • Flavor: Bright, fresh, and spicy

  • Pepper Appearance: Slender green peppers that ripen red

  • Culinary Use: Salsas, pico de gallo, sauces, cooking, and fresh use

Growing & Care Information

  • Grower Experience Level: Intermediate

  • Growth Habit: Tall, vigorous, and highly productive plant

  • Mature Plant Size: Up to 5 feet tall

  • Pepper Pod Size: Typically 1–4 inches long

  • Days to Maturity: Approximately 70–85 days from transplant

  • Ways to Grow: In-ground garden beds, raised beds, and large containers with proper drainage

Not a Users Guide
Format: Paperback
Although many readers may find this book useful, it describes a particular approach to Powerpoint. It is not anything like a comprehensive users guide.

Just linear
Format: Paperback
I appreciate that it helps to organize the chaos of information, but I just used the template verbatim with my manager and it did not go very well. He said this linear approach does not work anymore with high-level corporate audiences. They want to cut right to the chase and start to dig into the deep details. This layout with simple images, even if you just pull away the map and anchor slides, makes the storytelling too much like a story, not giving enough credit to the speed at which certain audiences can and do process data on a slide. It was an interesting exercise and I still think this linear layout works in some cases. Just not if you are trying to communicate business case or other C-suite type of information.

Student Review
This book is an excellent introduction to the basic principles of insurance. We used this text as a supplement in our Intro to Act. Sci. class. It is very readable, easy to understand. Minimal mathematics required, some basic calculus concepts used, but only briefly. Don't let it's small size fool ya, it has plenty of information in there.
