About Bigleaf Maple
Bigleaf Maple (a.k.a. Broadleaf Maple or Oregon Maple) is sometimes thought of as the “Grande Dame” of all maple trees. It is big, beautiful, and an amazing shade provider. Its 1-foot across, five-lobed leaves are the largest of any maple: hence, its name and its unparalleled ability to cast shade and put on a color-show in fall. Leaves reaching an astounding two feet across have been reported. The “National Champion” Acer macrophyllum resides in Oregon and stands around 90 feet tall with a 100-foot crown spread and an enormous, muscular trunk, over 8 feet across. By any standard, Bigleaf Maple is a very impressive citizen of the natural world with much to offer in terms of both beauty and commercial value. In fact, it is the only commercially valuable hardwood in its native region. Its wood is used for furniture, piano frames, paneling and veneers, and its sap can even be made into syrup.
Bigleaf Maples are native to the forests of the Pacific Northwest, almost always found within 200 miles of the Pacific Ocean, from southern Alaska down to southern California. Limited stands can also be found in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and there is even a small population in Idaho. Bigleaf Maples are usually 60 – 80 feet tall with broad, rounded crowns spreading to around 50 feet across. It is the second most abundant tree found in the Pacific Northwest, and it grows over a wide range of temperature and moisture conditions, from the cool, moist, marine climate of coastal British Columbia to the warm, dry, growing seasons of southern California. Cold hardy, as well as heat tolerant, it prefers temperatures which remain above 8°F in winter and below 100°F in summer.
Acer macrophyllum throws down a massive root system with excellent soil fixing abilities. In addition to its huge leaves, Bigleaf Maples have the distinction of playing host to a variety of moss, lichens, and Licorice Ferns, which grow right from the tree’s nutrient-rich bark, adding to the tree’s interest and loveliness. When pretty and petite just won’t cut the mustard, here is a tree that is big, bold, and beautiful! An unmatched shade-tree, Bigleaf Maples do not go unnoticed — and for good reason!

Excellent Hard Sci-Fi… Until the Politics Pull You Out
Format: Kindle
I was really excited to dive into Project Hail Mary. As a longtime Isaac Asimov fan, I’ve been craving fresh, modern hard science fiction that actually respects the science. This book delivered — at least for a while.
The author injects real science into the story in a way that’s both fun and fantastic. You don’t need to be an engineer to follow it; a solid high-school education is plenty. The concepts stretch your imagination without ever feeling impossible, and for the first chunk of the book I was hooked. I genuinely thought I’d found a new favorite author.
Then the jarring interruptions started.
Out of nowhere you get yanked out of the immersive sci-fi world by modern political pandering that feels completely unnecessary. A random parenthetical about Columbus “discovering an already inhabited world” when comparing something to the New World. Casual pronoun lectures. Characters selected or described by race and identity in ways that scream “check the boxes.” These moments don’t serve the story — they feel injected. Once you notice the author’s leanings, it becomes hard to unsee.
Each time it happens, the fantasy evaporates. It takes several chapters to sink back into the story… only for the next micro-lecture to pull you right back out.
Overall, I loved the writing, the hard science, and the imagination. It’s some of the best sci-fi I’ve read in years. I just wish the author had trusted the story instead of sneaking in real-world politics. It’s like eating the best meal of your life… and then finding a hair or two in it.
Strongly recommended for the sci-fi, with the above caveat.

ABSOLUTELY A MUST for Omegaverse Girls!!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Jillian West and her books!!! I’m so happy I already bought book two and now I have to buy the others for the Assurance Security series!!
Not gonna lie Val kind of annoyed me at the beginning but she grew on me!! Her men are chef’s kisses!!! Holt annoys me some but I can let it slide. I already bought part two so I’m going to be reading that in between work phone calls!!!! DON’T TELL MY BOSS 😂😂😂😂

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat.
It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot.
Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable.
The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold.
The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.

Interesting
Format: Kindle
So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.
