Variegated String of Tears (scientific name: Senecio herreanus ‘Variegatus’ or Curio herreanus ‘Variegatus’) is a rare and attractive trailing succulent known for its beautiful teardrop-shaped leaves with creamy white, pink, and green streaks. It’s closely related to the String of Pearls and String of Bananas, but its leaves are slightly elongated and pointed—resembling tiny tears or raindrops. 🌿

Here’s a full explanation and care guide:

🌸 Appearance

  • Leaves: Small, fleshy, and shaped like teardrops with transparent “windows” that allow sunlight to enter for photosynthesis.
  • Variegation: The leaves display mixed colors—green with streaks of white, cream, or pink, especially when exposed to bright light.
  • Stems: Thin, trailing, and can grow long, making it ideal for hanging baskets.
  • Flowers: Produces small, white, cinnamon-scented, daisy-like flowers, typically in spring or summer.

🌞 Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright, indirect sunlight.
  • Can tolerate some direct morning sun, which enhances pink variegation.
  • Avoid harsh afternoon sun—it can burn the delicate variegated leaves.

💧 Watering

  • Water sparingly — only when the soil is completely dry.
  • Overwatering can easily cause root rot, which is the most common issue.
  • Use the “soak and dry” method: water thoroughly, then let it dry out completely before watering again.

🌿 Soil

  • Needs well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.
  • You can improve drainage by adding perlite or pumice.

🌡️ Temperature

  • Thrives in 18–27°C (65–80°F).
  • Protect from frost — bring indoors during winter if temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).

🌬️ Humidity

  • Prefers low to moderate humidity.
  • Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.

🌱 Propagation

  • Easily propagated from stem cuttings.
  • Let the cut end dry for a day or two, then place it on moist succulent soil. Roots form within a few weeks.

🌺 Uses

  • Perfect for hanging pots, shelves, or terrariums where its trailing vines can cascade beautifully.
  • Adds a soft, pastel touch to any succulent collection.

The Lord Vader Treatment
Format: Kindle
Love this Darth perspective. It potentially fills in some gaps in the timeline in the beginning of his transition. Loved the humor and the art.

Exciting and fast paced
Format: Kindle
Loved the stories within stories flashbacks. It all ties in nicely in the end and leaves a cool cliffhanger. The art is fantastic and so is the sifting in of beloved Star Wars characters from the past. Good storyline to follow!

Great way to add even more depth to Black Spire Outpost
Format: Paperback
Having just visited Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, I really enjoyed learning more layers of depth and stories from there with this collection of comics. Having read "A Crash of Fate" and "Black Spire" was a great way to do that as well, but this was obviously a quicker read, and also spanned many different times and with some different characters, too. Great for readers with shorter attention spans, too! Recommended!

A great tie-in to the Disney parks
Format: Paperback
Welcome to the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu! I haven't been yet, but you may have if you've recently visited Disney World or Disney Land. There's obviously a lot of references to how the actual park looks. The cover featured the Millenium Falcon just like the actual attraction. This graphic novel tells one story focusing on one of the original characters made for the parks: Dok-Ondar. Within the big story there are four smaller tales being retold. Han Solo deals with a baby sarlacc. Greedo's ego is showcased. Hando comes in contact with the Guardians of the Whills. And, Doctor Aphra travels to the Sith Homeworld of Moraband. Each of these stories show off different aspects of the park that you can see for yourself if you go in person. This is what Star Wars does so well, making connections and building a big lived-in world. There are plenty of wonderful references. Ki-Adi-Mundi and Chirrut are just two of my favorites. Dok-Ondar is the true star of this book. He's an underworld mastermind. I give this book a 3.5/5. It's full of fun stories with connections to the park and featured characters from different eras. This definitely is a tie-in story, though.

Good point of entry into Star Wars comics
Format: Paperback
I love Star Wars and have been enjoying seeing the expanded universe. Honestly, sometimes the focus on Jedis and Siths is a bit of a distraction from understanding what life would be like in that galaxy.
