A small deciduous, slow-growing tree of palmately-lobed leaves, forming a handsome garden specimen or bonsai.
The rich purple-red leaves, possessing 7 lobes, gradually become hues of fiery red during autumn.
Grows 3-4 feet within a bonsai pot, or around 12 feet after 20 years within open ground.
Fully frost hardy. Protect very young plants and seedlings from hard frosts initially.
The trees are easy to keep small (if desired) with pruning.
Makes an excellent bonsai tree as the roots are very shallow and it is easily dwarfed.

Germination
| GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS |
Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum' 🌱 Soak in water for 2 days. Place in a zip-lock bag with lightly-moist propagation compost or vermiculite. Keep at room temperature for 4 weeks, then refrigerate for further 12 weeks, opening & shaking bag daily for aeration. Finally sow 1cm deep within propagation compost at 20°C (68°F). Maintain moisture & bright conditions. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors within autumn, allowing frosts to break seed dormancy.
Caution: Not for consumption. Choking hazard. Keep away from children & pets. Handle with care.
