Rattlesnake Master is native to prairies throughout the eastern United States, from Maryland to Minnesota and south to Texas. It grows in diverse habitats from open, sandy woods to limestone glades and tolerates a variety of soils, however, good drainage is essential. Too much water or overly rich soil makes this plant flop. Due to a deep taproot, plants prefer not to be transplanted once established.
