Hibiscus coccineus Red, is a Herbaceous perennial in the Malvaceae family. A native to the Southeastern United States from Virginia to Florida. Some common names include Swamp Hibiscus, Red Rose Mallow, and Red Texas Star. It is a hardy Hibiscus species that has leaves that look very much like Cannabis sativa leaves. It is found naturally growing in marshes, swamps, and ditches. Having the name Texas Star is funny since you can't find one growing naturally in Texas. The red flowers on this one measure 10-12 inches across. It grows to almost 10 feet tall but is usually seen around 5-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. It is in bloom from late spring until mid-fall. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade in normal soil well-drained. The birds, bees, and butterflies will visit this one. Zones 6-11

Germination

To germinate Hibiscus coccineus seeds, begin by scarifying the hard seed coat to enhance germination. Gently nick or file the seed coat, being careful not to damage the inner seed. Soak the scarified seeds in warm water for about 24 hours to further aid germination. Prepare a well-draining seed-starting mix and sow the scarified seeds on the surface, gently pressing them into the soil without burying them too deeply. Maintain a warm environment with temperatures around 70-85°F (21-29°C) for germination. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination can be variable, taking anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Once the seedlings have developed a few sets of leaves and are sturdy enough, they can be transplanted into larger pots or outdoor locations. Hibiscus coccineus thrives in moist to wet soils and prefers full sun to partial shade conditions. The process of germinating these seeds will reward you with striking scarlet-red flowers and lush foliage, adding a touch of vibrancy to damp and water-rich areas of your garden.

Nice
Color: Warm Gold
Very well built, heavy base, I took a star off because it’s a little darker champagne gold than I wanted, but I like enough to keep it.
