Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata'

Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata' has glossy arrow-shaped leaves with fine netted markings across the blade. The pale lines sit across the green surface and become clearer once a new leaf has hardened.

The plant also carries the petiole character associated with Alocasia zebrina: upright leaf stalks with zebra-like streaking. Both blade reticulation and petiole striping remain visible as the leaves lift above the pot.

Netted leaves and striped petioles

  • Leaf shape: Glossy arrow-shaped green blades with a pointed outline.
  • Leaf pattern: Fine light-and-dark reticulation runs across the blade surface.
  • Petioles: Upright stalks show the zebra-like striping linked to Alocasia zebrina.
  • Growth habit: Clumping Alocasia growth from the base, with leaves held above the pot.
  • Pattern behaviour: New leaves can look softer in pattern at first, with markings becoming clearer as the blade firms up.
  • Leaf finish: Glossy surfaces show dust, pest marks and water spots quickly.

Growth and leaf pattern

The netted markings sit across the glossy blades, while the upright petioles carry zebra-like streaking. Bright filtered light reduces stretched petioles and scorch risk, but it does not create extra reticulation.

The glossy blades can show stress early, so watering and temperature swings often appear as drooping, yellowing or leaf marks. A warm position, higher humidity and an airy substrate give the roots the balance of moisture and oxygen they need between waterings.

Care for Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata'

  • Light: Give bright filtered light. Direct sun can scorch the glossy blades, while very low light can lead to stretched petioles.
  • Humidity: Aim for 60–80% humidity. Steady humidity helps new leaves open without creasing or sticking.
  • Water: Water after the upper part of the mix has dried. The substrate should feel lightly moist below the surface, not saturated.
  • Temperature: Keep it warm, ideally around 20–28 °C. Cold conditions combined with wet substrate can damage the roots.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky, fast-draining mix that still holds some moisture around the roots.
  • Leaf care: Clean the glossy leaves gently so dust and water marks do not dull the reticulated surface.

Common issues with Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata'

  • Soft or faint pattern: Young leaves can show softer markings before the blade hardens; stress can also make the pattern look less crisp.
  • Brown patches: Harsh direct sun can scorch the glossy surface and leave dry marks.
  • Yellow leaves: Wet substrate, cold roots or a pot that stays damp too long can trigger yellowing.
  • Drooping petioles: A dry rootball, cold stress or damaged roots can make the leaves hang down.
  • Pest speckling: Spider mites and thrips can leave pale dots, streaks or dull areas on the glossy blades.

Safety for Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata'

Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata' is not pet-safe if chewed or eaten. The leaves and stems contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth and throat.

Botanical background of Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata'

The parent species Alocasia zebrina was described by G.W. Johnson and R. Hogg and first published in Journal of Horticulture and Cottage Gardener, volume 28, page 139, in 1862. POWO treats the species as native to the Philippines, where it grows in the wet tropical biome. The epithet zebrina refers to the zebra-like markings on the petioles. In Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata', fine netted markings appear across the glossy blade surface.

Personal experience welded together with history and logic.
Format: Kindle
I heard Randy Clark's name come up on a YouTube video of Bill Johnson's teaching. When I saw that this book was available on the Christian Author's Network on Facebook, I had to have a copy. I love the way Mr. Clark boldly lays out the different beliefs among people groups concerning healing. The way that he pulls together the questions all of us think concerning why some people are healed and others are not is so enlightening. His honesty and sincerity make the reading so easy to jump into. He does not condemn anyone for their beliefs, and is quick to lay out his own questions and answers as well as his own unanswered questions about healing. And the main attraction of this book to me is that it is all scripturally-based. In my opinion, Mr. Clark welds together the logical scientific train of thought with the undeniable Word of God. This is a great book full of personal experience, history and in-depth study of the scriptures concerning healing and how to receive a personal breakthrough and to be a conduit for the Holy Spirit to flow through for the healing of others. Great, anointed book!

Clear, Readable, Informative, Biblical, and Practical
Format: Kindle
This is one of the best guides to what healing ministry is all about. Clark covers a plethora of biblical, theological, and practical aspects of healing: objections, testimonies, questions, various schools of thought, and the mystery of some being healed and others not. Clark writes well and both those with theological degrees (like myself) and those relatively new to Christianity should be able to get something out of this book. I especially appreciate his irenic tone and his stalwart rejection of the dreadful notion that God wills suffering. I can’t think of a better introduction to healing ministry than this. Equal to, yes, but not better.

This writer lives it, what others only dream about. Let it become real in your life.
Format: Kindle
Good solid teaching. He is a great expert on this kind of thing. It does get academic as he refers and quotes papers he had to do in his research. I got a lot of good teaching and insights from a man who is doing the Jesus stuff.

This is a GOOD book
Format: Paperback
I really enjoy everything from Randy Clark. I love that it’s taught coming from love, not super aggressive or “weird”. The book is great for people getting into healing ministry and those fully involved.

An excellent guide to healing
Format: Kindle
I am a pastor of a local church that is pursuing divine healing as a primary way of seeing the gospel of Jesus advance in the earth today. This book is an excellent guide and a "how to" manual to see increased healing in a congregational setting. I am asking several of my church leaders to read it so we can apply the principles in our local church and mission trip settings. (Btw, I have personally received two significant healings through Randy Clark's ministry as he was practicing the methods described in this book in a conference setting.) For those wanting to see more of the miraculous as part of their gospel ministry, this is an excellent "read, study, and think" book that will help you move from point A to B in your journey to see and experience more.
