Mimosa Pudica Seeds (Sensitive Plant)

Mimosa pudica is a tropical plant native to Central and South America, known for its delicate fern-like foliage and small pink pom-pom shaped flowers. Often called the “Sensitive Plant,” it is famous for its ability to close its leaves when touched or when exposed to movement, as well as folding up at night. This creeping herb adds both visual interest and interactive appeal to gardens and indoor plant collections.

A Unique Plant for Containers and Indoor Growing

In cooler climates, Mimosa pudica is commonly grown as a houseplant or annual, while in warmer regions it behaves as a perennial and can become invasive if not managed. Beyond its ornamental value, the plant and its seeds are traditionally associated with medicinal uses, making it an intriguing addition for gardeners interested in multipurpose plants. As a trusted Canadian seed shop, quality is always the number one priority for us. Explore our collections to discover carefully selected seeds suited to a wide range of growing conditions.

FAQs

How do I grow Mimosa pudica from seed?

In order to grow Mimosa pudica from seed, you need to soak seeds in warm water before planting to improve germination, then sow them in well-drained soil in a warm, bright location. Keep the soil consistently moist during early growth.

Why does Mimosa pudica close its leaves when touched?

Mimosa pudica has fine hairs that sense movement and trigger the leaves to fold inward as a natural defense response, which also occurs at night.

Can Mimosa pudica be grown indoors?

Yes, Mimosa pudica grows well as a houseplant in cooler climates when provided with bright light, warmth, and regular watering.

Delicious Peach Chutney - Perfect with Samosas!
We get frozen samosas and heat them up in the oven for 15 minutes, then serve them with this delicious peach chutney. I've been enjoying this chutney since I lived in Africa and am so happy I can get some at amazon whenever we are close to running out. This will become essential to your life once you taste how delicious it is. My husband also put it on a rice dish I threw together with some stir fried rice, corn, rotisserie chicken pieces and a few chopped up pieces of sweet onion. You do what you can to keep dinner on the table! With the samosas and the chutney half the work is done! I'll keep getting this and I liked that the bottles arrived nicely packaged in bubble wrap so they didn't break! I have to compliment my delivery people, they all treat my packages gently! You may also love this chutney with curry or mix it with mayonnaise and stir it with some sliced bananas as we used to do in Africa. It also works in curried chicken salad. So lots of ideas! ~The Rebecca Review
