Why Grow Annie Oakley Okra?

High-Yielding, Spineless Annie Oakley Okra is a dependable, garden-friendly variety bred for productivity and ease of harvest. This dehybridized, open-pollinated version of the popular Annie Oakley 2 hybrid delivers the same uniform performance gardeners love, now with the added benefit of being seed-saving friendly. The compact plants produce smooth, tender green pods that are completely spineless, making harvesting comfortable and enjoyable.

Perfect for Small Gardens with Excellent Pod Quality Annie Oakley Okra is well suited for raised beds and smaller garden spaces thanks to its manageable growth habit and heavy pod production. For the best flavor and tenderness, pods are best harvested at 3–4 inches long, when they’re young and at peak quality. Because this variety is open-pollinated, gardeners can save seeds year after year, making Annie Oakley Okra a productive, practical, and sustainable choice for any backyard garden.

Annie Oakley Okra Growing Tips

• When to Plant Okra

Okra is a true "warm season" vegetable that thrives in heat and should be planted after all risk of frost has passed and soil temperatures have warmed. Okra can be directly sown in the garden once temperatures are consistently warm, typically in late spring. For best germination, soil temperatures should be at least 65–70°F.

Okra grows quickly in warm conditions and loves long, hot summers. In southern climates, it can be planted multiple times for successive harvests. Plants can grow fairly tall depending on the variety, so be sure to space them properly to allow for good airflow and easy harvesting.

• How to Fertilize Okra

It’s always a good idea to apply some pre-plant fertilizer to the soil when planting okra. We like to add Coop Gro organic fertilizer in the planting furrow or across the garden bed before planting to help establish strong roots early on.

Okra isn't considered a "heavy-feeder", but it sometimes can benefit from steady nutrition throughout the growing season. Use the production of the plants as an indicator of whether they need to be fertilized. If your okra plants are producing heavily, don't worry about them. If your okra plants are starting to decline, you might want to feed them.

We like to sprinkle Coop Gro around the base of the plants or apply a liquid fertilizer like AgroThrive Fruit & Flower alongside the row. Healthy, vigorous okra plants will produce more pods and better withstand heat, pests, and disease pressure.

• Harvesting Okra

Okra pods are best harvested when they are young and tender. Most varieties should be picked when pods reach about 3–4 inches long (some larger varieties can be harvested longer while still tender).

Harvest frequently—every 1–2 days—as plants will continue producing more pods the more you pick. If pods are left on the plant too long, they will become tough and woody, and production may slow down.

Use a knife or pruners to cut pods from the plant, especially on varieties with thicker stems. Regular harvesting will keep your plants productive and provide a steady supply of fresh okra throughout the season.

No assembly required

Absolutely love this! Arrived in a timely manner and it’s very versatile. Blocks the light on our porch on a hot day. Very durable and stable product. The color was as expected and there is no assembly required.

Looks ok if you don't look too close. Not likely to last long.
Color: Light Beige, Size: 6-Panel, Color: Light Beige, Size: 6-Panel
Got here fast, which was great since our company "upgraded" its video conferencing software and virtual backgrounds no longer work. But I can only describe the item as rickety and sloppily built. See photos: visible gaps in the weave that show the frame through. Chewed up screws in the hinges look like someone took them out and put them back in several times... or salvaged them from another unit. On the whole, it doesn't seem sturdy. I'll be folding it up and re-deploying it several times a week, so I'll be surprised if it will still stand up in a year. Not a good value for the price, really, except that demand on these right now has prices pushed upward. I'd be happy enough if I'd spent $39.99 rather than over a hundred.

Good product, poor directions.
Color: Black, Size: B-88''W-4 Panel
The quality of the product was better than most at this price. The directions could have been much better even though I have an engineering background.

Nice partition for my basement
Color: Beige, Size: B-102''-3 Panel
This 3-panel room divider showed up well-packaged with all the parts and even a little tool for putting it together. The instructions were easy to follow, and while one person can definitely assemble it, having two makes it quicker and less frustrating. It does exactly what I needed—gives quick, easy coverage in an open area. I'm using it in my basement to hide the furnace and water heater, and it works great for that. It looks nice overall, but I picked the beige fabric (which is really more of a tan), and the black frame makes it stand out more than I’d like. A white or lighter frame would’ve blended better. Not sure that I would use it anywhere besides the basement It’s lightweight and pretty sturdy. The wheels make it easy to move, but it does get a bit wobbly, and the panel clips need to be readjusted every time you roll it somewhere new. Still, for the price, it’s a solid buy. I’m happy with it and planning to order another one.

Fantastic
Color: Beige, Size: A-132''W-6 Panel
I am perennially in the process of rearranging, reorganizing, getting ready for yard sales, changing the functions of various rooms, moving everything out of a room to do a deep clean, etc, which means that there is always SOME part of my house, if not the entire thing, that is a disaster zone. Having someone knock on my door triggers a "duck and cover" reflex because it's so embarrassing for anyone to see that I live like this. (I *feel* like I don't, really, because I know that all the various stages are all temporary, but when there's always something temporary going on, it might as well be permanent, you know?) So THANK HEAVENS for a room divider that is not only large enough to divide my uncomfortably long den in half the long way so I can shove all the messy parts up against the back wall -- that is not only simple and attractive and neutral and (this is important) NOT BLACK because I have multiple pets and anything black in this house will be pet-hair-colored within 20 seconds -- that not only has **SIX** panels for lots of options of how I want to divide the space/s -- but is also on WHEELS. Someone out there really does love me, it's true! The panels are stable *enough* - I'm not going to lie and say that nothing is going to knock them over, because I have some balance issues, and I also have cats, and both of those circumstances has resulted in a mess on at least one occasion. But in the cats' defense, they've never dealt with a room partition that didn't hang from the ceiling before; and in my defense, I just grabbed the first thing I could reach on the way down. Not the product's fault in either case. Assembly was a little dicey as I am currently in **bilateral** (oh yes, that's fun) wrist braces, so I had to give up until I had help. But I think if you're able-bodied, you shouldn't have any difficulty. The only down side is, now that I've hidden away all the mess so I can break out the holiday decorations, you know what happens next, right?? That's right... the PERMA-MESS ZONE. Oh no. Oh well.
