Planting Guidelines for Peredovik Sunflower

  • Planting Times:

    • Spring (April–June) – Plant after the last frost for optimal growth.
  • Seeding Depth:

    • 1 to 1.5 inches deep – Deeper planting may delay germination or reduce emergence.
  • Seeding Rates:

    • Drilled: 15–20 lbs per acre in well-prepared seedbeds.
    • Broadcast: 25–30 lbs per acre, followed by light cultipacking.
  • Days to Maturity:

    • 75–90 days for full maturity, depending on growing conditions and climate.
  • Height at Maturity:

    • Typically reaches 6–10 feet tall, with large, bright yellow flower heads.
  • Drought Tolerance:

    • Moderate to High – Peredovik sunflowers are drought-tolerant once established, but they prefer consistent moisture during germination and early growth.
  • Saturated Soil Tolerance:

    • Low – Sunflowers require well-drained soil and do not tolerate prolonged waterlogging.
  • Shade Tolerance:

    • Low – Prefers full sun but can tolerate light shade.

Fertilization Guidelines for Peredovik Sunflower

  • Soil pH: Prefers a soil pH of 6.0–7.5 for optimal growth.

  • Nitrogen (N):

    • Sunflowers require moderate levels of nitrogen to support healthy growth and seed production.
    • Apply 40–60 lbs of nitrogen per acre at planting or during early growth.
  • Phosphorus (P) & Potassium (K):

    • Apply 30–60 lbs of phosphorus (P₂O₅) and 40–80 lbs of potassium (K₂O) based on soil tests.
    • Sunflowers require adequate phosphorus and potassium to promote healthy root development and seed production.

Fertilization Timing:

  • Apply phosphorus and potassium before planting based on soil test recommendations.
  • Split nitrogen applications if needed to support continuous growth, especially during the flowering period.

Herbicide Use for Peredovik Sunflower

  • Weed Management:

    • Effective weed control is essential in the early stages of growth to reduce competition for nutrients and water.
  • Pre-emergence Herbicides:

    • Prowl (Pendimethalin) – Controls annual grasses and small broadleaf weeds.
    • Sonalan (Ethafluralin) – Provides broad-spectrum control without harming sunflowers.
  • Post-emergence Herbicides:

    • Clethodim, sethoxydim, quizalofop – Controls grasses without damaging sunflowers.

Key Considerations:

  • Mowing or cultivation during early stages can help control weeds.
  • Avoid using 2,4-D, as it can damage sunflowers, especially during early growth stages.

Adorable but not holding up well
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Puppy
They’re super cute, have a great variety, but my puppy whose 2 months old and only 9/10 lbs has chewed through the plastic parts already and it’s only been a week or so, they arnt holding up very well for larger breed puppies.

Fun for Pups and You Can Hide a Treat Inside!
These chew toys are fun for my pup! He especially loves that I can hide a treat inside, which keeps him interested and entertained. They’re a nice size for small dogs and puppies, and I also like the light colors because they’re easy to spot when they end up under the sofa because somehow they always do!

Cute toys but not for tough chewers. Might be too thick for my 6 lb girl
These are fun for the right dog, but not a good choice for all. They're a good size for medium dogs and some small dogs, but "small" is relative I guess and the size of this toy won't work for all small dogs. I definitely expected these to be smaller, though I measured and they are the size shown in the listing (for those in the US it's about 2 1/4" by 4 3/4"). I think one thing that surprised me is how tall (?) they are, or maybe thick? They show two measurements in the listing but not the other. That's the one that makes a big difference with small dogs, especially really small dogs like mine. I have a 6 lb Maltese with a teeny tiny mouth so I have to find toys that she can fit her teeny mouth around. She loves toys with nubbies and has other "spiky" toys like this, but so far hasn't been too interested and I wonder if it's because it's too thick. If she doesn't give them a try we have doggy friends who are big enough for them, more the 12-16 lb size. There was a bit of smell on them when I first opened the package, but after giving them a quick wash (which I do with all chew toys like this) the smell was completely gone. Whatever it was must have just been on the outside because it hasn't come back. I can't really say how durable these are, but I doubt they'd be good for tough chewers. They're not super soft but in the world of dog chewing they're medium at best. They're very cute and if you have a medium to soft chewer they could be a great addition to the toy basket. They also have a hole down the middle which could be filled with something to lick out, another way to keep them busy. Can't say any of this makes them worth the rather high price asked though.
