Care Guide

Light Requirements

Monstera Peru thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light levels but will grow more slowly and may lose some of its leaf texture in very dim conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves. Plant Light Requirements

Watering Needs

Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry. Monstera Peru prefers consistent moisture but is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent standing water. Indoor Plant Watering

Soil Preferences

Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged. A mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well to provide the necessary drainage and aeration. Indoor Plant Potting Mix

Temperature and Humidity

Monstera Peru thrives in temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C) and appreciates high humidity. Mist the leaves regularly or place the plant in a humid environment to maintain optimal conditions.

Fertilization

Feed Monstera Peru with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when growth slows. Natural Fertilizer

Pruning and Maintenance

Monstera Peru requires minimal pruning. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain the plant’s appearance and health. Repot the plant every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and accommodate its growth.

Propagation Methods and Tips

Stem Cuttings

Propagating Monstera Peru is best done through stem cuttings, which can be rooted in water or directly in soil.

Steps:

  1. Take a healthy stem cutting with at least one node and a few leaves.
  2. Place the cutting in water or moist soil, ensuring the node is submerged or buried.
  3. Keep the cutting in a warm, bright area with indirect light.
  4. Roots should develop within a few weeks, after which you can transplant the cutting into a pot.
Common Pests

Spider Mites

Spider mites are tiny pests that can cause damage to Monstera Peru by sucking the sap from the leaves, leading to yellowing and stippling. They thrive in dry conditions, so maintaining adequate humidity and regularly misting the plant can help deter them. If an infestation occurs, wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or use insecticidal soap. Learn More

Mealybugs

Mealybugs are small, white, cotton-like insects that can infest the plant, particularly around the leaf bases. They feed on plant sap, causing stunted growth and leaf yellowing. To treat an infestation, wipe the affected areas with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol or apply insecticidal soap. Learn More

Scale Insects

Scale insects are small, oval-shaped pests that attach themselves to the leaves and stems of the plant. They can cause leaf yellowing and drop if left untreated. Remove scales manually with a soft cloth or treat the plant with insecticidal soap. Learn More

Fungus Gnats

Fungus gnats are small, black flies that lay their eggs in moist soil. While the adults are more of a nuisance, the larvae can damage the roots of the plant. To prevent fungus gnats, allow the soil to dry out between waterings and consider using sticky traps to catch the adult gnats. Learn More

Preventative Measures

To keep pests at bay, regularly inspect your Monstera Peru for signs of infestation, maintain proper watering practices, and ensure good air circulation around the plant. Quarantining new plants before introducing them to your collection can also help prevent the spread of pests.

Not worth it
Size: Mini
The orange clasp that locks it in place is super faulty on the one I received. It folds at any point when trying to throw the ball. Not sure if I just got a defective one but I wasn’t a fan. Would rather get one at a pet store just to play it safe

Not as sturdy as a regular one
Size: Mini
I was holding off writing a review about this because I wasn’t sure that it was going to hold up as well as a regular non bendable Chuck It wand. I have found I like the way it folds up and fits into my backpack nicely and also fits into my big purse when I’m out and about with my dog. You have to make sure the orange sleeve is over the screw part in the middle of the wand before you can throw the ball otherwise it’s not going to throw. It’s going to collapse. I’m not sure how long the durability is going to last that’s my only question about this product and I don’t know how long the screws on the elbow of it are gonna hold up but for now it’s been working great and we play with it every day and I’ve not had a problem with it. It’s just not as sturdy as a full size wand

Love this version of Chuck It beyond all before
Size: Mini
I had the longer bendable Chuck It before, well several, which broke down. They finally wouldn’t’ release the ball. Not disparaging Chuck It. They have been my furry puppy's favorite thing ever. I am grateful. But what I like and think is intuitive about this smaller design is 2 things: 1. I can do a more dynamic throw. 2. There are circle holes in the Chuck It Ball that come with it that I think allow for easier release and the ball can go father. Just my two cents.

Still Good to Use in a Pinch
Size: Mini
Love the Chuck it brand. This collapsible one is not my favorite. Everytime I chuck it, the orange lock does not stay in place. Plus, in my opinion, it doesn't have the oomph for the distance like the other medium ones. Still good though

Great For Dog Park Fun -- The Ball Goes Flying
Size: 25in, Style: Sport
I love this thing. It's super well made and It enables me to chuck a ball the entire length of the dog park (I'm a 65 yr old woman with a wimpy arm). My dog is thrilled too. At first I thought it might be too heavy, but that's just not an issue, the weight is fine. For non-throwers like me someone at the dog park gave me a tip --- just look at the area you want to throw the ball. Helped my aim immensely. The 2.5 inch chuck it ball it comes with is my dog's absolute *favorite* . . . it's her security blanket in the kennel while driving, and it's her favorite ball to chase (the only one she'll actually bring back). She loves to chew it and to squish the air out of it, which takes a little effort. Recommend.
