Sabal minor, commonly known as the dwarf palmetto or scrub palmetto, is a hardy palm species native to southeastern United States, particularly found in regions ranging from Texas to the Carolinas. Belonging to the Arecaceae family, this palm is characterized by its compact stature, typically growing up to 5-10 feet in height, with a clumping habit. It features fan-shaped leaves that can reach lengths of up to 3-4 feet, giving the plant a distinctive tropical appearance. Sabal minor is adaptable to various soil types, including sandy and clay soils, and is tolerant of both drought and flooding, making it suitable for a range of landscape conditions. In spring, it produces creamy white flowers that give way to small black fruits, providing food for wildlife. This palm is often used in landscaping as a specimen plant, in mass plantings, or as a backdrop in tropical-themed gardens, offering a touch of exoticism and lushness to outdoor spaces. With its resilience and attractive appearance, Sabal minor remains a popular choice for gardeners seeking to create a tropical ambiance in their landscapes.  Zones 7-9

Germination

Sabal minor seed germination involves several important steps to ensure successful propagation. First remove any remaining pulp or debris. To break dormancy and promote germination, the seeds may benefit from scarification, a process that involves nicking or filing the seed coat to allow moisture to penetrate. Alternatively, soaking the seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours can also aid in softening the seed coat. After scarification or soaking, the seeds can be sown in a well-draining potting mix, lightly covered with soil, and kept consistently moist. Germination typically occurs within a few weeks to a few months, depending on environmental conditions. It's crucial to provide warmth and ample sunlight to encourage seedling growth. Once seedlings emerge, they should be gradually acclimated to ambient conditions and eventually transplanted into individual pots or a suitable outdoor location. With attention to these steps, successful germination of Sabal minor seeds can be achieved, leading to the establishment of this charming palm species in gardens and landscapes.

Puppy loves these sticks!
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Dogs love these sticks! Must smell and taste like real wood because it keeps my puppy from bringing real sticks in the house from outside. She is a heavy chewer and these sticks keep her occupied. We are on our 2nd set.

Our dog loves it but it wasn’t durable enough to last
Color: Dogwood Jack, Size: Large, Color: Dogwood Jack, Size: Large
Our lab took to it as soon as we gave it to her. Perfect size for our 80 lb yellow lab. However, now that it’s in about 10 days, she’s able to break off chunks from this bone that are dime size or larger, and we have to throw it away

No problems after a year and a half
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Have been regularly buying these for my corgi for about a year and a half. The 2 pack lasts about a month or 2 each time. Pieces break off in small enough pieces that they safely pass through his digestive system. He gnaws each one down to about 1/4 the original size before we take it away and give him a new one. He continues to have regular bowel movements and has a healthy appetite so I can’t imagine any problems arising after so long. I have tried other alternatives and every other similar chew breaks off in larger pieces and didn’t feel comfortable letting him chew/eat them. I noticed there are a few 1 star reviews saying their dogs got sick off these but after a year and a half I have had 0 issues with this product. I guess it depends on the dog and how big of pieces they are swallowing. My dog ingests pieces about the size of a grain of rice so just pay attention and you should be fine.
