Beaucarnea (Ponytail palm) is a member of Asparagaceae, a family of flowering plants. (Edible Asparagus is it's popular cousin). It's pronounced root stock allows the plant to store water longer than other house plants. This feature the Ponytail to survive seasonal droughts in it's native habitat.
