Dragon's Blood Stonecrop (Sedum spurium 'Dragon's Blood')

Dragon's Blood Stonecrop is a tough, low groundcover that adds rich color and reliable coverage to sunny spaces with very little upkeep. Its succulent foliage forms a dense mat that helps fill gaps and keep beds looking finished through heat and dry weather. As temperatures cool, the foliage typically deepens to burgundy and red tones for extra seasonal interest. In summer, bright starry flowers add a vivid bloom layer and bring pollinators into the garden.

Distinctive Features

This mat-forming stonecrop spreads by creeping stems to create a carpet of small, fleshy leaves that range from green with red edging to deeper red tones, often turning burgundy in fall. In mid to late summer, clusters of small, star-shaped flowers appear in rich pink to red shades, standing out clearly above the foliage. The plant is valued for its drought tolerance, ability to handle poor soils, and consistent color in full sun. It can also be semi-evergreen in milder winters, helping maintain interest beyond the main growing season.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Full sun provides the best foliage color and flowering, with part sun tolerated.
  • Soil: Plant in well-drained soil, including sandy or rocky sites, and avoid heavy, consistently wet conditions.
  • Water: Water to establish, then provide low water, allowing soil to dry between waterings once established.
  • USDA Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 9 in typical garden conditions.
  • Mature Size: Typically grows 3 to 6 inches tall and spreads 18 to 24 inches wide.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use a broad patch as a low focal point where the red foliage can read clearly against stone, mulch, or brighter plants.
  • Groundcover: Mass plant to create a dense mat that fills gaps and helps suppress weeds in sunny beds.
  • Rock Gardens: Tuck into rock and gravel gardens where sharp drainage and reflected heat are common.
  • Edging: Line paths and bed fronts for a clean, low border with season-long color shifts.
  • Between Stepping Stones: Use where foot traffic is light and you want living color between pavers.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Shear lightly after flowering or in early spring to refresh growth and keep the mat dense.
  • Fertilizing: Avoid heavy feeding, because lean soils help maintain compact growth and better color.
  • Mulching: Use a thin gravel top-dress if desired and keep stems from staying wet to reduce rot risk.
  • Watering: Reduce irrigation once established, as overwatering can lead to weaker growth and crown issues.
  • Propagation: Expand plantings easily by re-rooting small stem pieces in well-drained soil.

Why Choose Dragon's Blood Stonecrop?

  • Red Foliage Color: Leaves shift from green with red tones to deeper burgundy in cooler weather for long seasonal interest.
  • Summer Flowers: Pink to red blooms add a bright seasonal layer and support pollinators.
  • Waterwise Performance: Succulent growth handles heat and drought well once established in well-drained soil.
  • Tough Site Fit: Thrives in poor, rocky, and shallow soils where many plants struggle.
  • Easy Coverage: Spreading habit forms a dense mat that fills gaps and helps unify plantings.

Dragon's Blood Stonecrop is an easy way to add durable coverage and bold color to sunny, fast-draining areas. Pair it with ornamental grasses, silver foliage plants, or golden groundcovers to highlight its red tones. With sun and drainage, it stays tidy, resilient, and visually strong year after year.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Fun read
Format: Kindle
I'm not really into mafia books but I love Roxy Collin's other series so I decided to give it a try. It had the same great romance, spice, swoon-worthy characters and exciting plot that are her signature. Arben was my favorite, although it was a bit sudden how quickly he changed from ignoring her to wanting to be pack. There were almost too many twists/layers of lies to keep track of but I'm looking forward to reading the other books. The only thing that detracted from the story for me was the need for a bit more proofreading. It was mentioned that Kelly is a female and male at different points, leading me to think she changed her mind at some point about the character's gender but didn't go back and edit it to align in all places. Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.
