What is Tongkat Ali?

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia), also known as Longjack, is one of the most prized tonic herbs of Southeast Asia. The name means "Ali's walking stick" in Malay, a nod to the plant's tall, straight growth and its long, deep roots. It grows wild in the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia, where it has been valued for generations as a traditional daily tonic, taken by both men and women.

Our Tongkat Ali is wild-harvested from mature roots deep in the Indonesian jungle, then prepared as a full-spectrum dual extract. The root is woody and slow-growing, and the mature roots are the most treasured part of the plant.

Is Tongkat Ali the same as Longjack?

Yes. Tongkat Ali and Longjack are two names for the same plant, Eurycoma longifolia. "Tongkat Ali" is the Malay name; "Longjack" is the name it became known by in the West. In Indonesia it is also called Pasak Bumi, and you may see it described as "Malaysian ginseng", though it is not related to true ginseng.

What matters most is the quality of the root and how it is extracted. Ours is wild-harvested mature root, prepared as a full-spectrum 10:1 dual extract.

Why is our Tongkat Ali a 10:1 dual extract?

We make our Tongkat Ali as a 10:1 dual extract, using both water and alcohol to capture the widest range of the root's naturally occurring compounds. Many extracts are made at much higher ratios, such as 50:1, 100:1 or even 200:1. A bigger number sounds more impressive, but it does not always make a better extract.

Some of the root's natural compounds are delicate, and prolonged heat or heavy concentration can damage them. By keeping to a gentler 10:1 ratio with a temperature-controlled process, we capture the compounds in the same proportions as the whole root, rather than stripping the extract back to a single fraction. That is what "full spectrum" means.

The liquid extract is then gently dried into a micro-fine powder that dissolves easily into warm water or any drink, with no fillers or bulking agents added.

How to take Tongkat Ali?

Start with 0.5g (about a quarter level teaspoon) once a day, in warm water or stirred into your favourite tea, smoothie or drink. This is a potent, concentrated extract, so take it with food and plenty of water. Some build up to 1 to 2g a day, though most find a smaller amount is plenty.

Cycling: many people like to cycle tonic herbs, for example five days on and two days rest. Find a rhythm that suits your routine.

Tongkat Ali sits well alongside other tonic herbs, such as our He Shou Wu or Pine Pollen. Our customer reviews below describe many of the ways people have come to use it.

Is Tongkat Ali safe?

Tongkat Ali has been taken as a daily tonic in Southeast Asia for generations. As with any concentrated herbal extract, take it sensibly: start with a small amount (0.5g or less), take it with food, and do not exceed the suggested serving.

We would not recommend it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you take any hormone-related or other regular medication, or are under medical care, please speak to a qualified healthcare practitioner before adding Tongkat Ali to your routine.

Where the Wildflowers Grow and this book was such an emotional journey. What started as a survival story slowly turned into a story about healing, identity, forgiveness, and learning how to live again after trauma. Leandra endured more pain than most people could imagine. Losing her family, spending five years in prison, and surviving the prison transport bus crash would have been enough to completely harden her. Instead, watching her reinvent herself as Leigh and slowly rediscover who she was outside of survival mode made this story feel deeply human and realistic. I really loved the symbolism of the flower farm and how Jackson became a safe place for her without trying to “fix” her. Their relationship felt patient, healing, and genuine. The romance never overshadowed Leigh’s personal growth, which I appreciated. This book truly explored what it means to be loved properly while still carrying scars from your past. What kept me invested the entire time was the tension hanging over everything. Even during the peaceful moments, you knew the secrets surrounding Leigh’s past would eventually surface. And when the truth finally came out, the consequences were emotional and impactful instead of feeling overly dramatic.

Fantastic Book!
Format: Paperback
“This book is such an amazing, thought-provoking, raw, and beautifully written novel. I thoroughly enjoyed every page and truly could not put it down. The characters came alive in such a vivid and unforgettable way that I was genuinely sad when the story ended, and I cried so much at the end. It pulled at my heartstrings in the most beautiful, poignant, and emotionally honest way. A truly unforgettable read.”

emotionally rich but overly long.
Format: Kindle
Where the wildflowers grow has some generally moving moments, especially around grief, healing, and found family. The flower farm setting is comforting, and Leigh’s trauma feels authentic. However, the pacing is slow in the middle. Some of the plot twist are fairly predictable. I felt the love between Leigh and Jackson was moving, and I felt her healing with Tibbs and Luke was very emotional. The book lies heavily into melancholy, but I I’m glad that I read it. I didn’t feel like it was a complete waste of time. I just wish it was maybe a little shorter.

This book was really good, it's definitely a love story, I enjoyed the story line. It definitely took a while for it to come out, but I had my suspicions along the way. It's a long book but it was a quick read for me.

A Beautiful Story of Healing and Hope
Format: Kindle
Where the Wildflowers Grow is a tender and beautifully written story about survival, healing, and unexpected love. Leigh has endured unimaginable loss, and her time on the flower farm becomes the pause her spirit needs. I loved this story as my heart ached at Leigh’s journey. Jackson is a beautiful soul who understands the work of healing and helps her feel seen and alive again. The book is filled with learning nuggets and gentle reminders, including my favorite line: “You are more than the sum of your struggles.” A beautiful reminder that something new can bloom after heartbreak.
