Anthurium magnificum x luxurians

Anthurium magnificum x luxurians combines broad heart-shaped leaves with a raised, textured surface. It brings together the velvet-leaf character of Anthurium magnificum and the thicker, bullate texture of Anthurium luxurians.

Individual plants can look closer to either parent. Some show more angular petioles and flatter velvet leaves, while others develop rounder, ribbed petioles and deeper puckering. Leaf size, surface texture and vein strength can all vary between individual plants.

A textured Anthurium hybrid

  • Growth: Cultivated Anthurium hybrid with a compact-to-medium crown.
  • Leaf shape: Broad heart-shaped leaves, often closer to the A. magnificum side.
  • Leaf texture: Raised or bullate surface from the A. luxurians side.
  • Veins: Strong pale veins over mature green leaves.
  • Petioles: Petioles may be more angular or rounder and ribbed.
  • Leaf variation: Mature plants can differ in texture, width and petiole shape.

Velvet leaves and bullate texture

This hybrid combines two Colombian Anthuriums from wet tropical habitats. Anthurium magnificum contributes broad velvet leaves, strong pale veins and angular petioles. Anthurium luxurians contributes thicker leaves, deeper puckering and round ribbed petioles.

Warm roots, filtered light and an airy mix help broader leaves develop without stale moisture around the roots.

Care for broad textured leaves

  • Light: Give bright filtered light. Strong direct sun can mark the raised leaf surface.
  • Watering: Water once the upper mix has started to dry, then let excess water drain fully.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky Anthurium mix with bark, coco chips or coarse fibre, pumice or perlite, and a small moisture-holding part.
  • Pot fit: Use a pot close to the root ball and avoid oversized containers.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves open smoothly. Gentle airflow keeps the crown from staying wet.
  • Temperature: Keep the plant warm through active growth, ideally around 20–28 °C.
  • Feeding: Use a diluted complete fertiliser during active growth.
  • Repotting: Refresh the pot when roots fill the container or the mix starts to break down.
  • Leaf care: Clean mature leaves with a soft damp cloth. Textured leaves can hold dust in the raised and sunken areas.
  • Propagation: Propagate by division or stem sections with nodes once the plant has enough mature growth. New plants from seed can vary.

Common issues with Anthurium magnificum x luxurians

  • Yellowing with soft petioles: Check for saturated substrate, compacted mix or cool roots.
  • Crisp edges: Broad leaves can brown when the root zone swings between too dry and too wet.
  • Pale patches: Move the plant away from strong direct sun or heat buildup near glass.
  • Small new leaves: If new leaves stay small, check the roots, light and warmth first.
  • Water-soaked marks: Keep the leaves dry and improve airflow if translucent spots start spreading.

Flowering on Anthurium magnificum x luxurians

A mature plant may produce an Anthurium spathe and spadix. The flower colour and shape can vary between individual plants.

Safety around pets

Anthurium magnificum x luxurians contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes. Keep it out of reach of pets and children that may nibble or eat plant material, and wash your hands after pruning or handling damaged tissue.

Hybrid name

Anthurium refers to the spadix. The hybrid name reflects the parent cross between A. magnificum and A. luxurians.

Anthurium magnificum x luxurians develops broad textured leaves, strong veins and petioles that can be more angular or more rounded.

Best ball toy I have found
Size: Small
This is my dog’s absolute favorite. I bought this one as a replacement. Finally after years of use one of the tiny ribs gave way. Ball is still completely useable, but got another. She chomps down on it constantly, tears at it, shakes it in her mouth. It is extremely durable. One of the great things about this ball is how ‘soft’ it is. Meaning the way it’s constructed makes it have a lot of give. The texture of the ball itself is firm, but the amount of ‘airiness’ means you can throw it inside your home, against walls, furniture, etc without worrying about any damage. Great toy inside and outside. Highly recommended ball toy. They make all different sizes. My dog is 25 lbs and loves both the 3” and the mini. The mini ones are the same size as mini tennis balls..problem is she would destroy a mini tennis ball within a day of getting one. She has had the mini Hol-ee Roller for years. Super durable.

I have a toy dog and she really loves this
Size: Small
however her mouth is very small and she had a difficult time gripping the ball. so I took a pair of scissors and cut out a section to make a bigger hole for her to get her little mouth through and now she has a lot of fun picking it up and playing with it. The ball is well-made and is one of her favorite toys. if I tell her to go get her ball she will even go under the bed and is able to grab it and carry it up the stairs to the bed for playtime. It also makes it easy when we are in the yard when I throw it. It is light enough for her to carry and bring back to me. But, as I said , I did have to adapt it so she could get a grip.

Easy to grab and throw!
Size: Medium
Our puppy loves this ball, although it gets stuck on her teeth sometimes, but she gets it off just fine! Easy to play and throw. She has a blast catching it, too!

Keeps my dog happy
Size: Medium
This is a fun toy for our cavalier. It's pretty versatile in how you can use it, which I like because it allows me to change things up to keep my dog engaged. He's also an aggressive chewer and he hasn't destroyed it.
