Care & Maintenance/Outdoor Planting Instructions: There is no such thing as a 100% frost-proof planter. The freeze-thaw cycles that occur in winter will cause any water in the container to freeze and expand which may cause the container to crack. It is best to store the item in a dry place out of the elements.

Our Glazed and Terra Cotta planters are equipped with pre-installed drainage holes to allow for drainage. The drain holes must be kept clear to maintain the longevity of your planter, especially in climates that undergo freeze thaw cycles in the winter. If you are unable to bring a planter out of the elements:

We recommend covering the drain holes with a mesh screen or equivalent to keep debris from clogging the openings; Filling the bottom of the planter with non-porous drainage material; Filling the remainder of the planter with a well-draining soil mix that will not retain water; and lastly, covering the soil with decorative mulch or pine bark to the top rim of the planter to discourage water from pooling on the surface. For indoor use, Campania can source saucers for special orders and plugs are available upon request.

      Description

      Traditionally used for domestic pottery, including large water storage vessels, the dark brown clay of Asian Earthenware is fired at a high temperature which creates its distinctive rich brown color.

      Campania’s glazed and terra cotta planters are hand made from natural clay using traditional artisanal techniques and high-fired at temperatures between 990-1000 degrees centigrade to ensure frost resistance and durability. Glazed planters are coated with natural glazing elements that are baked onto the surface to enhance the products resistance to weathering.

      Cleaning Instructions: Campania’s Terra Cotta planters can be cleaned with mild soapy water. Spray down the surface of the planter where it is dirty and use a lint-free cloth, soft bristle brush or sponge to wipe the surface. Note that it may take several cycles of wiping and drying before the planter is completely clean. Do not pressure wash, use alcohol based cleaners, apply corrosive cleaners or clean with anything abrasive.

      In setting the scene, Sangeet reminds us that, in the 1960s, Singapore was a struggling port city with limited natural resources and a rather tenuous future. It's hard to imagine but true. A strategic location in South East Asia. But such location meant little if it could not draw talent and capital to develop the infrastructure needed to grow, and here a deceptively simple and modular invention helped - the shipping container. Harvard Professor Carliss Y. Baldwin, in her book Design Rules, shared with us how technology shapes organisations, indeed entire industries and societal structures, and so, as we envision and put a technology to use, who decide how organisations are shaped, who governs them, and where power and agency lies.  Yet AI is not just any other technology. We are not in full control of the technology and its power to learn, re-shape itself, and its impact on the nature of work therefore extends well beyond the individual using AI tools. This is where Sangeet takes us, into a hugely relevant and timely discussion of how AI presents immense opportunities as well as grave risks to the knowledge economy, as we know it today. Before we rush to layer AI on top of org. processes and models that have served us in previous generations, let’s take an ecosystem-wide view and ask - where are we now? What is fundamentally changing, and Where can we harness its trends towards an advantage? Having read Sangeet's book, my advice is this - seize the opportunity, invite others to the conversation and be open to new forms of power and control, as the organisations that win tomorrow are already experimenting in doing things differently today.
