Purple Sicily Cauliflower

(100 Seeds)

Purple Sicily Cauliflower grows in the cooler seasons as a biennial cruciferous vegetable. By its scientific name, Brassica oleracea var. botrytis, it is known to belong to the plant order Capparales. Unlike white cauliflower, this cauliflower's color comes from the antioxidant anthocyanin, which is also present in red cabbage.

These are a culinary delight, and the heads cook to bright green. While the insect-resistant varieties tend to be easier to grow than many white varieties; all varieteies are rich in minerals and look beautiful in any vegetable garden bed. These crops  display lush violet shades on the outside florets, but stems remain mundane at the core of the vegetable, retaining a cream color.

Although one wouldn't know by the color, Purple Sicily is a treat to eat and all parts (floret, stalk and leaves) are edible. While the stems and trunk are harder, the florets have a unique flavor. Overall, this cauliflower has a flavor that is  milder, sweeter, nuttier and less bitter than that of the white cauliflower.

Cauliflower is rich in vitamin C. It only takes about a half cup of florets to get nearly half of the daily requirement for vitamin C intake. It also packs a fair nutritional punch on the side of fiber, vitamin A, calcium and potassium in addition to many other minerals. These all work with Vitamin C to boost the immune system. As a cruciferous vegetable, there are also high levels of cancer-fighting phytochemical's know as glucosinolates made bio available within this plant.

Snowball Y Improved Cauliflower

(200 Seeds)

Snowball cauliflower is not only an excellent source of fiber and vitamins, but it is a garden staple as well. It is easy to grow in the cooler months, when other crops have already been harvested and are off to the market. Snowball cauliflower is a hardy plant, a low low-calorie superfood and is also easy to manage. This is a classic American plant that has been known to exist here for about 200 years, however only within the last couple of decades has it become a culinary staple.

It was introduced in America during the 1940's and has continued to be a world-wide favorite ever since. The compact heads are usually harvested at 6 to 8 inches, displaying snow white heads with tightly packed florets. Snowball Y Improved will freeze well making it a top choice as a storable crop.

Romanesco Broccoli (Cauliflower)

(350 Seeds)

Romanesco is an Italian heirloom and has been enjoyed for years, since the 16th century. The heads display apple-green, whorled pinnacles on 7 inch heads. The plants themselves can easily spread 3 feet wide, and grow to a mature height of about 2 or 3 feet tall. Romanesco boasts a mild, yet nutty flavoring and is often eaten raw, or cooked.

Romanesco Broccoli is categorized as an annual crop. Annuals such as this will grow quickly from freshly harvested seeds, producing flowers, fruits and seeds all within a single season. Romanesco is just one variety of Broccoli that we have to offer. check out our Broccoli seed category for additional varieties. You may also be interested in our Purple Cauliflower variety as well.

Great Product, Works as Advertised
Flavor Name: Unflavored, Size: 1.46 Pound (Pack of 1)
This product works exactly as described. It makes BM's smoother and gentler. I personally use the unflavored, no sweeteners added version, and honestly, it does not taste very good, but I feel that the results are worth it, and I do not like adding extra sweeteners or flavorings to my diet. I have used this product for many years and have found that about 1 1/2 to 2 tbsps in 12 ounces of water works the best for me. You will need to experiment a bit to find the ratio that works best for you. I recommend that you start on the low side and gradually increase the amount of Metamucil as needed.

Healthy, Effective, and great when mixed with Splenda and Koolaid mix. The best of many options I've tried.
Flavor Name: Unflavored, Size: 1.46 Pound (Pack of 1)
I've sampled a few different varieties of fiber supplements, including both Benefiber and off-brands, and I found that Metamucil provided the most fiber in the least offensive beverage. Compared to the other brands, this stuff is smoother textured, and goes down easier, as a sort of happy medium between the grittier supplements and the thicker ones. What about effectiveness? I have apocalyptic IBS, and since starting to take this stuff regularly (one giant glass every morning and evening), my BMs have been much more regular, and more manageable. Flare-ups happen less, and it even seems to do a decent job when taken with meals of cutting the hit to my stomach and gut. I tend to take more than the recommended amount, with an even larger serving of water, as I feel like it helps me stay hydrated and full throughout the day. I started taking the classic orange Metamucil, but although I really liked the superior flavor (rather like Orange Tang) it packed several times more sugar in each serving than fiber, so while it was great for digestive health, the overall health impact was too negative. I also sampled the sugar-free berry flavors, but found that, although it was ostensibly healthier, the flavor wasn't great, and in addition it suffered from the aspartame aftertaste and further effects (Aspartame gives me headaches). So this was a dilemma for me. What to do? I actually wrote to Metamucil about it, and they recommended this product. The downside is that it comes with absolutely no flavor, so you need to provide your own in order to mask the texture (I wouldn't dream of trying to mix this in plain water--yuck!) The upside is they pack 100+ servings into a container, and you really are free to blend it into whatever suits your fancy. Obviously if you mix it with something like orange juice, then you're already negating the benefits of this stuff over the sugary orange flavor, but I've personally found a much better way. I like to mix this stuff with Kool-aid mix and Splenda (Sucralose) sweetener. I buy a ton of Splenda and kool-aid as it mixes up tasting sweet, like sugar, but without the calories or aftertaste. You can dump a spoonful of this stuff into a glass of splenda-koolaid, or just dump 8 servings worth of this stuff in with a packet of koolaid powder and a cup of splenda, and then just mix it up and spoon it into water as needed. Better tasting, sugar-free and packed with good useful fiber. EDIT: I wish I could subscribe to this stuff. Price of splenda has gone up, but I've figured out thatyou can just dump 7 packets of koolaid mix and 7 dashes of sucralose into a container of this and shake it up.

#1 for #2's
Flavor Name: Unflavored, Size: 1.46 Pound (Pack of 1)
I like the lack of sweeteners and flavor. I just want the stuff that helps me poop. There is some citric acid in it (no idea why) which gives it a mildly acidic taste. Other than that, it does the trick.

Good Stuff
Flavor Name: Unflavored, Size: 1.46 Pound (Pack of 1)
If you need more fiber in your diet, you need this. The price is right, it works very well and keeps me regular. I use this instead of the gummies or capsules. That's because you MUST put in in fluid, and hydration is SO important when using a psyllium product as it causes water to be absorbed very quickly once it is ingested, and you don't want to dehydrate! Mixes very well in water and has little to no taste whatsoever. Stay regular, stay hydrated and stay well.
