The Yucca stricta is a striking, slow-growing perennial with its sword-like leaves and upright form. It is a favorite among drought-tolerant gardeners and plant collectors. While this plant is well known for its toughness in the landscape.

It also makes a great indoor plant and thrives in bright, sunny spaces. Its neat, compact form makes it a stylish option for rock gardens, minimalist modern designs, or xeriscaping projects.

Yucca stricta, native to North America's arid regions, is an evergreen plant with narrow, upright, rigid blue-green or grayish-green leaves that form a tight, symmetrical rosette.

Its sharp-tipped foliage, less wide and arching than other Yucca, opens in a new tab species, gives it a vertical, structural appearance, enhanced by a short, trunk-like base as it matures.

Yucca stricta grows up to 4 feet tall and wide on the ground but stays compact when grown in containers. It maintains its attractive, sculptural form year-round, even with minimal care.

The flowers of Yucca stricta bloom in late spring or early summer and may produce tall flower spikes. The creamy white, bell-shaped flowers that adorn these spikes attract pollinators such as bees and moths at night. The bloom display is dramatic and can elevate the visual appeal of your xeric or rock garden.

When it comes to care, Yucca stricta is exceptionally low maintenance. It thrives in well-drained succulent soil, opens in a new tab, whether sandy, rocky, or gravelly, and does not tolerate soggy or compacted soils. Watering should be minimal, allowing the soil to dry out completely between watering sessions.

Indoors, place your Rigid Yucca in a bright spot with direct sunlight, such as a south-facing window.

It prefers average room temperatures but can tolerate a range of 60 - 85°F.

Outdoors, it thrives in USDA zones 9-11, preferring full sun but can handle some light shade.

One of the unique aspects of Yucca stricta is its ability to resist deer and pests, making it an excellent choice for natural or rural landscapes. It’s also highly drought-tolerant once established, requiring very little intervention to thrive.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Yucca stricta is a rugged yet elegant plant that works equally well in containers, gardens, or as a standalone accent. Its sculptural form, easy care requirements, and drought resistance make it a valuable addition for plant lovers seeking low-maintenance beauty. Whether you're filling a dry garden bed, designing a desert-inspired space, or styling an indoor corner with a touch of the Southwest, Yucca stricta offers dependable performance and striking style year-round.

Very lightweight and not good for fetching
These balls are very lightweight. They feel like styrofoam. I try to use my Chuckit Chucker to throw them but they don't go very far and the wind will drift them in another direction as they are so light weight. Then, when my dog's saliva covers the ball, the moisture creates a suction in the launcher and the ball won't exit the chucker at all no matter how much force I put into the launch attempt. I guess they might be good for chewers, but not for throwing, if your dog likes to fetch. They would be good for throwing in the house as they won't damage anything.

Shockingly impressed
I have a heeler and he destroys everything. I thought I was going to be unimpressed at first thinking these were going to be shredded everywhere, but I have yet to see him destroy these and we have had them for over a month. I definitely recommend for high energy aggressive chewers.

Cheap and easily destroyed!
I bought these balls because they are advertised as indestructible. Frankly, tennis balls last 5x longer! We breed Cane Corso, and these don’t last even a few minutes with them. Definitely not indestructible and definitely not for aggressive chewers. Very disappointing. The search continues….

Great balls
So far so good. Belgian/pyrenees mix that loves chewing and destroying toys. He’ll have a hard time destroying these. They are light but carry well once thrown outside. Being light they are good inside on very cold days compared to something like a lacrosse ball. Better than Chuck It brand.
