  •   Sempervivum braunii is a hardy cold-tolerant succulent belonging to the houseleek family, prized for its exceptional frost tolerance and easy care nature. This drought tolerant alpine native originates from mountainous regions of Europe where it thrives in rocky, challenging conditions.

Sempervivum braunii forms distinctive rosettes with thick, fleshy leaves that create the classic "hens and chicks" clustering growth pattern. The compact rosettes display beautiful color variations from green to reddish-bronze, with pointed leaf tips that give each rosette a star-like appearance. This low maintenance succulent develops tight clusters as it matures, creating an impressive ground-covering display.

Sempervivum braunii produces tall flower stalks with small star-shaped blooms when mature, typically requiring nighttime temperature drops to trigger flowering. This beginner succulent handles balcony wind and rain well but needs cover from excessive moisture during dormant periods. The plant is completely pet friendly, making it safe for households with curious cats and dogs.

Sempervivum braunii excels as an outdoor succulent for rock gardens, containers, and xeriscaping projects where its cold hardy nature shines. This easy care succulent can move outside for summer, stay outdoors through autumn, and survives neglect beautifully - even handling 10-day trips alone. Collectors appreciate its reliable clustering habit and ability to thrive in drafty spots where other plants struggle.

  •   Sempervivum braunii thrives in full sun to partial sun but needs rotating for even growth.

Sempervivum braunii requires infrequent watering, typically every 1-2 weeks when soil is completely dry.

Sempervivum braunii grows best in well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix with added perlite.

Sempervivum braunii tolerates temperatures from 20-80°F (-7 to 27°C) and is highly frost tolerant.

Sempervivum braunii grows slowly and rarely needs fertilizer, preferring lean soil conditions naturally.

Sempervivum braunii thrives in USDA hardiness zones 3-9, tolerating frost down to -20°F (-29°C) or lower. This makes it suitable for growing across most of the continental United States, including cold-winter states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Alaska. The plant also flourishes in moderate climates found in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
  • Q: How often should I water my Sempervivum braunii?
A: Water Sempervivum braunii only when the soil is completely dry, typically every 1-2 weeks. This drought tolerant succulent prefers infrequent, deep watering over frequent light watering.

Q: Is Sempervivum braunii safe for pets?
A: Yes, Sempervivum braunii is completely pet friendly and safe around cats and dogs. This makes it an excellent choice for pet owners seeking low maintenance houseplants.

Q: Can Sempervivum braunii survive winter outdoors?
A: Sempervivum braunii is extremely cold hardy and frost tolerant, surviving temperatures down to -20°F (-29°C). It can remain outdoors year-round in USDA zones 3-9.

Q: How much light does Sempervivum braunii need?
A: Sempervivum braunii grows best in full sun to partial sun conditions. Rotate the plant regularly for even growth and avoid placing it in scorching south-facing windows.

Q: How fast does Sempervivum braunii grow and spread?
A: Sempervivum braunii grows slowly but steadily produces offsets in a clustering pattern. The mother rosette gradually creates "chicks" around its base, forming attractive colonies over time.

Q: What type of soil is best for Sempervivum braunii?
A: Sempervivum braunii thrives in well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Add extra perlite or coarse sand to ensure excellent drainage and prevent root rot.

I didn’t know a book could be this fun..
Format: Paperback
This book has been sooooo much fun since the second I opened it. Im a beginner at all of this. Just finished yesterday getting my first virtual machine up and running. Now I’m learning the different terminal commands. The book is literally a step by step guide. If you can follow instructions, and are brand new, this is a great book. Having ChatGPT open while I’m going through it has been very helpful. It’s nice to have a deeper understanding of certain things. I’m also not using windows or my primary OS and decided to learn Kali. I actually cannot wait to wake up in the morning and start working on chapter 3.

This IS where you start to understand it all!
Format: Paperback
While I haven't received my Second Edition book yet I do have the First Edition and I can say it's very thorough and well explained to even the beginner level. If you're trying to learn both Linux and Cybersecurity this IS the place you want to start. It will save you a ton of headaches and you're getting VERY VALUABLE skills you can use in any scenario. I would call it an advanced starting point. Linux itself can be somewhat difficult and daunting to learn and understand if you're coming from a strict use (Windows in my case) OS 25+ years. This book bridges that gap effectively and you can absorb the knowledge with a little work. Also watching OTW's video on YouTube with David Bombal is an excellent follow along source. In my opinion, OTW does the best job of explaining exactly what you need to know. And follow it up with a video or two of how to understand the Linux file system and you'll soon be set to go. David Bombal's vids on setting up VM on your computer are also very helpful! If your intention is to get into Cybersecurity from zero knowledge this IS the best point to gain valuable knowledge whether it's to crack into IT, Cybersecurity or just for your own knowledge, this book is worth 10x it's price!
