🌿 Schefflera arboricola ‘Compacta’ — Dwarf Umbrella Tree ‘Compacta’

Schefflera arboricola ‘Compacta’, often called the Dwarf Umbrella Tree ‘Compacta’, is a compact, slow-growing cultivar of the popular Schefflera arboricola, known for its tidy growth habit, dense foliage, and adaptability as an easy-care houseplant. Native to Taiwan, this evergreen shrub features glossy, palmately compound leaves that resemble the shape of an umbrella — each leaflet radiating from a central point in neat, rounded clusters. The ‘Compacta’ variety is particularly valued for its smaller leaf size, tighter internodes, and fuller appearance, making it ideal for tabletops, desks, shelves, and small interior spaces where a full-sized Schefflera may be too large. With its rich green foliage and sculptural form, Schefflera Compacta is perfect for modern interiors, offering a clean, tropical aesthetic with minimal maintenance. It is a forgiving plant that tolerates a range of indoor conditions and is well-suited for both novice and experienced plant owners.

☀️ Light Requirements

  • Indoors: Prefers bright, indirect light but will tolerate partial shade.

  • Low light: Will survive in lower light conditions, but growth may slow, and the plant may become leggy.

  • Direct sun: Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–26°C (65–79°F)

  • Minimum temperature: Keep above 12°C (54°F); avoid exposure to cold draughts.

  • Humidity: Tolerates normal household humidity. Occasional misting helps in dry environments.

💧 Watering Needs

  • Watering frequency: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, as root rot can develop in soggy soil.

  • Winter care: Reduce watering frequency in cooler months when growth naturally slows.

🪴 Soil & Repotting

  • Soil type: Well-draining general-purpose houseplant compost with added perlite or bark for aeration.

  • pH: Slightly acidic to neutral (6.0–7.0)

  • Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when rootbound. Choose a slightly larger pot and refresh the soil during repotting.

🌱 Feeding

  • Growing season (spring–summer): Feed every 4–6 weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser.

  • Autumn–winter: Feeding can be paused or reduced unless growth continues under strong light.

✂️ Pruning & Maintenance

  • Pruning: Trim regularly to maintain a compact shape and encourage bushier growth.

  • Leaf care: Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and restore shine.

  • Growth habit: Naturally bushy and well-contained, but will benefit from occasional thinning to improve airflow.

🌾 Propagation

  • Stem cuttings: Propagate in spring or summer using semi-hardwood cuttings. Root in water or moist compost.

  • Air layering: An option for mature stems if shaping or downsizing is needed.

🐛 Pests & Problems

  • Common pests: Spider mites, aphids, scale, and mealybugs.

  • Symptoms: Sticky residue, leaf yellowing, or curling.

  • Treatment: Wipe leaves, improve humidity, and treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

  • Common issues:

    • Leaf drop: Often caused by sudden changes in light, temperature, or watering routine.

    • Leggy growth: Usually due to insufficient light — move to a brighter location.

🧤 Toxicity & Safety

  • Toxicity: Mildly toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Can cause oral irritation and digestive upset.

  • Precaution: Keep out of reach of pets and small children.

🏡 Indoor Care Highlights

  • A compact, tidy plant perfect for small spaces, desks, or grouped foliage arrangements.

  • Adds soft, tropical structure to minimalist, contemporary, or naturalistic interiors.

  • Low-maintenance and highly adaptable to different indoor environments.

  • Combines well with other low- to medium-light tropicals such as ZZ plant, Sansevieria, and Pothos.

  • Can be used as a soft partition plant or tabletop centrepiece.

A timely introduction for classical retrieval
Format: Paperback
Bray has written a very accessible introduction to the attributes of God, with the proper distinctions between God’s essential attributes and his relational attributes. Bray does well in showing the necessity of the essential attributes as the foundation to the manifestation of God’s relational attributes to mankind, firmly anchoring them in the biblical text. I appreciate that he provided glimpses of the historical development of the attributes, interacting with some of the objections to the essential (i.e., classical) attributes and then exposing the reader to some of the best scholarship in response to the objections. The appendix ends the book with an historical survey of the attributes in the Christian tradition. Those unfamiliar with the development of classical theism will be brought up to speed, just enough to see the rich heritage of the classical attributes of God. I will be referring those new to systematic theology or are unfamiliar with the classical doctrine of God to this introductory work. It’s a great read and desperately needed due to the construals of God being promoted in modern theology.

Great addition to my sink!
Color: Black, Color: Black
This is a great sink organizer. I like a place for everything, and to hang up our dish cloth when done using it. We had a suction cup holder for that purpose but it broke several weeks ago. When this came in I noticed the 'washcloth bar' was just as another reviewer noted....pretty useless, unless you find a way to glue it down, so I chose to just toss that piece. We hang the cloth on the front fork piece, but that is also not secure and kept falling off. The simple solution for me was using some electrical tape to secure it. Not even noticeable and now works beautifully. Love the drainage with the sloped bottom, and having a spot for all the little thing we need handy at the sink. Highly recommend!
