Details

  • 1 to 2 ft. tall and wide
  • Clump-forming habit
  • Leaves and stems die back in the fall and appear again in the spring
  • Hardy in USDA hardiness zones 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9

Flowering period

In central North Carolina, flowering starts in May and can continue through most of the summer if plants are kept moist and old flowers are removed to produce more blooms.

How to grow

Adaptable, but prefers rich, moist soil that is not too acidic. In the wild Indian Pink grows in shady woods where it tends to have fewer flowers. Giving it some sun will produce more flowers and keep it compact. Plants can also be grown in full sun if the soil stays fairly moist.

Care and maintenance

Keep larger plants and weeds from invading its space. By selecting a good site and preparing the soil, plants will take care of themselves. Protect new growth in spring with chicken wire if rabbits lurk in your garden.

Where to plant

In groups at the front of flower beds or the edge of a moist woodland garden. Makes an attractive container plant.

When to plant

Spring and the fall (in the South) are the best times. Indian Pink can be planted in the summer if attention is given to keeping plants watered until they get established.

Spacing

12 to 18 inches apart when planting in a group.

When will my plant flower?

Plants purchased and planted before June should flower their first year.

Native habitat and range

Woodlands and forests, often in circumneutral (nearly neutral pH) soil from southwest North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee west to southern Indiana and Oklahoma and south into Florida.

Source and origin

Plants are propagated from seed collected here at our nursery. The original source of the seed is unknown.

I see results with my hair growth I'm very pleased. There is a noticeable smell to it but dissipates over a short time.

Great product, saved my hair
Honestly this is one of the best products I have ever used for my hair. I have been able to increase volume and thickness of my hair. The product is versatile and can be used in conjunction with other products as well. The application is very easy and I usually use any excess product on my skin for the added benefits. If you have fine hair your hair will get oily if you don't wash out so I just apply at night and wash out the next morning. Overall my hair is so much healthier and I am really happy I found this. Also I apply this 2-3 times per week overnight and wash in the AM. It will stain your pillow case so sleep with a bonnet or something with breathable material.

Love this batana oil over the other brands
This batana oil has natural ingredients and leaves my hair very moisturized. I have seen some hair growth after using this for a few weeks. So it's great value for my money. It does have a coffee scent but that doesn't bother me at all. I would definitely repurchase this again.

**UPDATE ON PDT*** Ingredients changed
Ok here’s my update (4/4/26) We loved it. It did what it was supposed to do in the beginning but now I stopped using the product. Ingredients must’ve changed. It’s now a darker color, it doesn’t dissolve like it did in the past, and worst part— my daughter’s hair started breaking off. It could just be her hair but I don’t want to take chances. The ingredients definitely changed. We are trying azure batana and will stick with it for 3 months to see results. But as of now their product looks like the real deal. It’s a shame because I like consistency. I’ll stick with one product for years. Oh well. Tossed this one out. (Pic 1-2 AFTER USING; Pic 3 BEFORE USING) Yes it works. It smells so if you’re sensitive to smells, you might only want to use it as a deep conditioner. Both my daughter & I are adjusted to the smell and love the results so we can easily prioritize our results over the less than fragrant odor. But the results!!! My daughter lost 40% of her hair a yr ago to severe scalp ezcema (+ a trip to St Martin’s beautiful yet salty water). We used other products with marginal success. I started using this product 2 months ago & I already see results. We use it twice weekly as a spot treatment along the crown & nape of her head, and deep condition with it twice monthly. Her locs are growing and more importantly, her edges and nape are recovering tremendously. We’re going to keep at it!! We like the texture (moist but not sticky), it leaves her locs moisturized but not weighed down. Her hair is drinking it up. Will repost after 2 more months.
