Common Name: Polka Dot Plant, Freckle Face Plant

Scientific Name: Hypoestes phyllostachya

-Care Recommendations By The Dude-

Best for These Animals: Small reptiles and amphibians.

Bio Dude Substrates: Terra Flora, Terra Fauna, Terra Firma.

Soil Depth: Any soil depth.

Lighting: Low to medium, or bright indirect light. Do not place under a heat or basking lamp.

Humidity & Misting: 40% - 100%, prefers higher humidity. Prefers consistently moist soil, but not overly soggy.

Mature Plant Size & Root System: In rare instances, it can reach up to 3 feet in height, though usually grows much smaller, at under 1 foot tall and wide. Mature plants can get leggy, but can be easily pruned back for new, lower growth to take its place. It has a tendency to bunch outwards, and the root system will grow out at least as far as the leaf canopy.

Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Takes temperatures between 60 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit, but prefers temperatures between 60 - 80 degrees. Does well as a smaller bunching plant or foreground plant placed towards the front of the terrarium.

Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: Not toxic to humans, cats, dogs, or reptiles and amphibians, though it is generally considered an ornamental plant and is not ingested.

Pot Size & Packaging: A single 4" potted polka dot plant is shipped in the pot, wrapped in paper.

Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones
Color: Purple & Blue
I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.

Pups have shown zero interest in these toys….
Color: Purple & Blue
I would agree that these are indestructible being neither of my dogs have shown any interest in these at all. At this rate they should last forever…

Durable but losses interest
Color: Purple & Blue
My dog is an aggressive chewer. She was interested in this toy while it was new, but soon after lost interest. Good news is although it took a beating it did not break or splinter. If soppy toys are disposable in your house, give it a try.

Chew toy that will last!
Color: Blue&Red Fish
Great toy for a real chewer. It's been in the house for about 5 days and the toy is still intact and the squeaker is still squeaking.
