Anthurium radicans x luxurians

Anthurium radicans x luxurians is a cultivated hybrid between two textured Anthurium species. It forms a compact crown with thick, bullate leaves that emerge in red, bronze or maroon tones before maturing into deep green.

The leaves are firm and quilted, with raised ridges and recessed areas that create strong surface texture. Mature foliage becomes heavier and more sculptural, while the plant usually remains manageable in a pot.

Textured hybrid features

  • Hybrid background: A cross between Anthurium radicans and Anthurium luxurians.
  • Leaf texture: Strongly bullate blades with a raised, quilted surface.
  • New growth: Emerging leaves often show red, bronze or maroon tones.
  • Growth habit: Compact to medium crown-forming Anthurium for pot culture.
  • Root system: Thick roots need moisture, warmth and generous air space.

Parent species and pot growth

Anthurium radicans is native to eastern Bahia in Brazil and grows as a perennial or lithophyte in wet tropical habitat. Anthurium luxurians is native to Colombia and grows as a subshrub in the wet tropical biome. Their hybrid combines compact growth with dense, textured foliage and coloured emerging leaves.

The crown stays relatively contained while mature leaves gain weight and deeper surface relief. A stable pot and open substrate keep the thick roots aerated beneath the heavy foliage.

Care for Anthurium radicans x luxurians

  • Light: Place in bright filtered light. Strong indirect light keeps leaves firm and can deepen red-bronze tones in new growth.
  • Watering: Water once the upper 20–30% of the pot has dried. Keep the lower root zone lightly moist with free drainage.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky mix with bark, coco chips, pumice or lava rock, perlite and a small organic fraction.
  • Pot stability: Choose a stable pot with drainage. Mature leaves can become heavy, so balance matters as the crown fills out.
  • Humidity: Aim for 60–80% humidity for cleaner new leaves and fewer dry edge marks. Keep gentle airflow around the crown.
  • Temperature: Maintain 20–28°C during active growth. A warm root zone keeps thick Anthurium roots active.
  • Feeding: Feed at reduced strength during active growth. Increase only when the plant is producing roots and leaves steadily.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots crowd the container or the mix begins to collapse. Move up gradually to maintain aeration.
  • Pruning: Remove ageing leaves once they decline naturally, cutting close to the base with clean tools.
  • Propagation: Propagate by division or stem sections with nodes. Seed-grown offspring from hybrids can vary in texture and colour.

Issues on Anthurium radicans x luxurians

  • Yellowing with soft growth: Check for dense substrate, poor drainage or cold wet roots.
  • Brown edges: Review humidity, watering pattern, fertiliser strength and salt build-up.
  • Flatter new leaves: Assess root health, light and feeding. Immature or stressed growth can show weaker texture.
  • Stalled growth: Inspect the root system. Thick roots need open air spaces through the mix.
  • Marks on soft leaves: Check for thrips, mites and mechanical damage while new growth is still expanding.

Mature leaves show deeper relief, heavier substance and a denser crown than young growth. The hybrid usually remains manageable in a pot while building a thick, quilted surface over time.

Anthurium radicans x luxurians handling safety

Anthurium radicans x luxurians should be kept away from pets and children that may chew plant material. Like other Anthuriums, its tissues contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that may irritate the mouth, throat and digestive tract if chewed or swallowed. Place it out of reach of pets and children, and wash your hands after pruning or handling damaged tissue.

Anthurium radicans x luxurians name background

Anthurium belongs to the family Araceae, and the genus name comes from Greek words meaning “flower” and “tail”, referring to the spadix. Anthurium radicans was published by K.Koch & Haage; the epithet radicans means rooting or taking root. Anthurium luxurians was published by Croat & R.N.Cirino in 2005; luxurians means luxuriant or abundant in growth.

Anthurium radicans x luxurians combines compact bullate foliage, red-bronze new growth and thick textured leaves in a warm, bright setup.

Using this to power up some old Fisher speakers I restored.
Style: R-S202BL, Configuration: w/o Wire and Plug
This amp has the ability to provide and easy 100 watts per channel. Looks nice, no frills but nice chills when it pumps up the volume! This volume is a little bit to get use to but this is my only con is you have to keep turning and turning to get the sound where you want it. I like the old style when you turned it a tad to get volume. The sound is robust. Bluetooth is a nice touch when streaming your music wirelessly for long hours of play back with Pandora, YouTube etc. Radio is strong and AM is good. The display is easy read and you can lower the brightness too. I use an old Zen M 60GB to provide the tunes to this beast. I bought this with the Amazon Renewed listing and am very much impressed for this unit looked completely new and untouched. I am using this to power some vintage Fisher speakers from the late 60's which this does perfectly. The new 15 inch woofers installed really make a difference but the rest of the cabinets (excluding new cloth on the grills, poly fil, seals etc.) sound amazing after all these years. My dad had these in his garage which he passed away on July, 26, 2019 so this was for him in his memory. A big thanks to Amazon and Yamaha for the power to run them again. (Pictures of the restored Fisher speakers and receiver)

The way music should be played
Style: R-S202BL, Configuration: w/o Wire and Plug
First, I am an audiophile and have a $25K audio/video setup in our theater room. I bought this receiver for our bedroom when the old AVR we were using finally died. The Yamaha R-S202BL is a great 100w, no frills, stereo receiver. Beautiful, pure stereo music reproduction with no surround decoders/sound field programs to ruin audio reproduction. Old school Treble, Bass, and Balance controls on the remote (love it!). Bluetooth connected to our phones in seconds and works flawlessly. Used an inexpensice DAC ($20) to connect TV's digital optical output to Line 1 inputs in the R-N202. It works perfectly and TV sound is great. Also use the receivers speaker B outputs to connect to a small 10" subwoofer. That also works just fine. I can't say enough good things about this little receiver. Highly recommended!

Solid unit, not showy 9thank you)
Style: R-S202BL, Configuration: w/o Wire and Plug
FAST!! shipping, complete, well packaged, excellent price for Yamaha durability. Easy hook-up, normal sized manual (thanks again!). Smile, intuitive controls. Base and treble by front-panel pots. I would have paid extra for a lighted remote.

This item was sold at a NEW price and it was CLEARLY USED.
Style: R-S202BL, Configuration: w/o Wire and Plug
Unfortunately I really didn’t get to operate this item due to the fact that it didn’t work. After I connected my speakers and plugged it in, I turned on the power switch and the lights came on, but no sound. No discredit to Yamaha, nor the item... this is on the seller. It was sold at a new price and it was clearly a used item. Upon opening the box, I noticed : 1. The power cord was wrapped with a dirty, pink hair band. 2. The unit was not in plastic like a new item. 3. The FM antenna was missing. 4. The remote had old, used batteries in it. This should not have been re-sold.
