Philodendron ‘Bette Waterbury’, still widely known in cultivation as Philodendron 69686, develops deeply three-lobed leaves with a long, narrow central lobe and slim side lobes spreading from the upper part of the blade.
This cultivated hybrid has unknown original provenance and was formally published under the cultivar name Philodendron ‘Bette Waterbury’; 69686 remains widely used as its collection and trade reference. Mature growth carries short internodes, long cataphylls, dark green petioles and semi-glossy divided blades. As the stem climbs, the leaves can gain size and show the narrow-lobed shape more clearly.

Philodendron ‘Bette Waterbury’ was found in the Roberto Burle Marx collection and introduced into cultivation in the United States by Bette Waterbury.
A settled specimen can produce longer petioles, thicker stems and better-defined lobes than a juvenile plant. The narrow central lobe becomes the dominant part of the blade, while the side lobes sit at a wide angle near the base.
Philodendron ‘Bette Waterbury’ support and climbing care
- Support: Add a moss pole, plank, or textured stake early so aerial roots can attach as the stem lengthens.
- Light: Give bright filtered light. Direct sun can mark the leaf surface, while very dim placement slows leaf size development.
- Watering: Water when roughly the upper 25–35% of the pot has dried. The roots need moisture with air around them, not a constantly wet pot.
- Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix with bark, perlite, coco chips, pumice, or similar mineral pieces so roots can breathe between waterings.
- Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity helps new lobed leaves unfurl cleanly during active growth.
- Temperature: Keep it warm, ideally around 18–28°C, and protect it from cold draughts and chilled windows.

- Fertilizing: Feed lightly during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertilizer, avoiding heavy doses on dry roots.
- Propagation: Propagate from stem cuttings with at least one node; aerial-root sections usually establish fastest.
- Pruning: Trim long or uneven stems above a node if you need to control height or encourage a cleaner climbing shape.
- Semi-hydroponics: Suitable for mineral or semi-hydro setups if the cutting or rooted plant is transitioned gradually and the crown stays above the reservoir line.
Philodendron ‘Bette Waterbury’ leaf and root problems
- Small new leaves: Usually linked to weak light, no climbing surface, or an underfed root system. Improve light and give the aerial roots something to attach to.
- Yellow lower leaves: Check the root zone first. A dense or wet mix can hold too much water around the lower stem.
- Damaged new growth: If leaves tear while opening, raise humidity slightly and keep the support lightly moist during active root attachment without keeping the pot constantly wet.

Surprisingly amazing chair!

tl;dr: If you need a chair that has the features of this one, then this one is a winner! Hits above its weight class for sure.
My wife is 5’. She’s small. For whatever reason she ended up with a chair made for big people, like 6+ feet and up to 500lbs type of a chair. She’d often even sleep on it and chill on it. The chair was big enough to fit 2 of her to be honest. It was an expensive chair that I won at some raffle and didn’t like myself. Over the years it ripped (got a cover for it) and even started to get lopsided (from the sleeping) and finally a spring broke (hence the pillow on it in the pictures)
She obviously lives pink. I also wanted to get a chair where she could work and not end ip asleep on. Not like we have a couch or a bed for that 😂.
This chair is very obviously smaller than her previous chair, it’s also significantly cheaper in price and build, it’s also not as durable feeling or stable, and it’s just not as padded. Yet somehow it’s an amazing chair that we both like better than her previous chair???
Like it’s crazy that this chair somehow works better in so many ways. Her desk is modified to be shorter than normal desks (again, she small lol) and her previous chair was just too big. The wheels are also like SUPER smooth, like you can run a chair race easily with it. It rolls over her rug and tucks into her desk (which is in our bedroom) easily. The amount of space this has save us when the chair isn’t being used is a lot. Previous chair was much bigger and didn’t tuck in at all.
The color is nice and the padding is plenty for a small and much lighter than 500lbs woman. I’m 6 feet and 200 lbs and the chair is nice for me as well. My chair is bigger and more secure in the backing, which is similar to this one. The lowest tension setting on my chair is still too high for her to lean back on my chair. This chair has a lower tension minimum and she can easily lean back freely, as well as keep enough tension to work without sagging.
This chair is surprisingly outstanding! I’m sure my wife will destroy it quicker than the last one, but it’s so cheap that even if it only lasts 1-3 years, I’ll happily buy it ones or twice more 🤷🏽♀️. Maybe by then they’ll invent a comfortable titanium chair that’s affordable that she won’t destroy 😂.

Mid.
Color: Light Purple
The chair is fine, and reasonably easy to put together. However, I've been using it for a little over a year and a half, and it's already falling apart. Random parts of it have fallen off, which is fine because it was still functional. But now the most frustrating part is that the wheels continue to pop off, and while the first attempts to pop them back on worked, they will not stay on now. This is obviously greatly impacting the stability, and I will need to purchase a replacement soon. For this price and lack of long-term durability, I would not buy again.

Alexa messed me up, but the company of the chair made it right!

I wanted something small with arms that moved out of the way when I wanted to slide my chair all the way into my desk for more space. This fit the bill. I loved the color blue and I had that in my cart for a bit. One day Alexa mentioned that an item that was in my cart was on sale. It was the chair. I let it be ordered. When it came it didn't exactly look blue to me. But I kept putting it together thinking maybe it was the lighting in the room I was assembling it in. I brought it to my craft room and lo and behold it is light purple. I looked at my order and sure enough it said light purple. Boo! I looked in my saved cart and the chair was gone. So I accepted it for an error. The next day I checked to see if I could return it. Thought I could, till I read that I would have to pay to return it. So I wrote the seller to tell them to ignore the return. And that was that. Till a couple days later I get an email from the seller asking if I would like a full refund or a replacement at no cost. I was like heck yeah send me the blue one. I was thrilled and I wanted to thank the seller for doing this without the return of the other chair. But I could not find a place to do that now. So here is where I will thank you. Thank you so much for doing this for me. You guys are AWESOME!. I love the chair and I love the blue color. I find it very comfortable, lite, easy to adjust, the size works great for me, and for the price the quality fits my needs. I do hope it lasts me for quite some time. Thanks again!

Awesome chair definitely recommend

It was amazing the color was spot on and it was very very easy to put together and the size is amazing for my 11 year old daughter maybe not for an older person it doesn’t recline as much as it says so if you want a reclining chair maybe I don’t recommend this chair but the quality is amazing and the adjustment capability is incredible the noise level is at 0 it is an amazing chair we just got it so I don’t know so much about the dupability so if you want this chair for a child or a tween maybe even a teen easy to put together beautiful blue color this is the chair for you.
