Alocasia ‘Lukiwan’ is a rare and exceptionally beautiful hybrid from the Araceae family, admired for its bold tropical foliage and distinctive leaf texture. Believed to be a cross involving Alocasia micholitziana and Alocasia reginula, this hybrid combines the velvety richness of black Alocasias with the elegant venation and upright growth typical of the Jewel Alocasia group.

The leaves are arrow-shaped, with a velvety deep green to almost black surface and striking, silvery-white veins that create a bold contrast. Their texture is soft and matte, catching the light in subtle ways that highlight their sculptural form. Each leaf emerges from a sturdy, green to burgundy petiole, adding depth and dimension to the plant’s appearance.

Compact yet dramatic, Alocasia ‘Lukiwan’ is perfect as a feature piece on desks, shelves, or in small plant groupings. Its rich tones and intricate veining make it a must-have for collectors and anyone seeking a luxurious, jungle-inspired look indoors.

Alocasia ‘Lukiwan’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too little light will slow growth and cause loss of colour contrast, while harsh direct sunlight may burn the velvety leaves. East-facing windows or filtered light through sheer curtains are ideal.

Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Alocasias prefer a consistent watering routine — avoid letting the soil dry out completely, but ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Reduce watering during dormancy in winter.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers warmth, 20–28°C. Avoid draughts and temperatures below 16°C.

  • Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is essential to maintain lush foliage. Mist lightly or use a humidifier, especially in centrally heated homes.

Soil and Potting

Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix – peat-free compost blended with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well. This allows airflow while retaining some moisture. Repot every 1–2 years in spring.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Do not feed during dormancy.

Pruning and Maintenance

Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves from the base to encourage new growth. Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to preserve their velvety surface.

Growth and Maturity

A compact Alocasia, typically reaching 40–60 cm tall. Mature plants develop broader, thicker leaves with more pronounced veining.

Common Issues

  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or cold temperatures.

  • Crisped edges: Low humidity or underwatering.

  • Dormancy: Natural in winter; reduce watering and allow the plant to rest.

  • Pests: Occasionally spider mites, thrips, or mealybugs.

Background and Benefits

Alocasia ‘Lukiwan’ is a relatively new hybrid developed for its striking foliage and manageable size. It embodies the best qualities of its parent species — the velvety leaves of A. reginula and the graceful structure of A. micholitziana. Its rare, elegant appearance makes it a favourite among collectors of exotic and unusual Alocasias.

Perfect for adding drama and texture to modern interiors, this hybrid thrives with warmth, humidity, and a little patience.

Good Stuff!! All low speed shudder is gone.
Size: 5 Quart Jug
I have a 2020 Nissan Altima SL 2.5l and Nissan is VERY specific about using ONLY NS3 transmission fluid. There are only a couple NS3 transmission fluid manufacturers...Nissan NS3 (Manufactured by Idemitsu), Idemitsu (a little cheaper than Nissan dealer), Triax, and Mannol (works good too). Seeing as Nissan is still using Jatco CVT transmissions which are known to be very troublesome, and very expensive to replace I wouldn't try any of the so-called "universal" transmission fluids just to save $50 and end up replacing a $6000 transmission. The Triax fluid seems to work very good in my car. I don't feel the shutter that I normally feel when driving slow and need to accelerate. The shudder is completely gone and operating smooth. The old fluid had 50k miles and it was very dirty but didn't smell burnt. I ended up doing 2 - 3 1/2 quart changes with 200 miles between the first and second change. I plan on doing another 3.5/4 quart change every 15k miles since there is no way to completely drain the 7.4 quarts of transmission fluid. The first change, only 3.5 quarts drained from the pan.

Quality fluid for half cost in Mini CVT.
Size: 5 Quart Jug
Used in the cvt transmission in my 06 mini cooper. The fluid requirements recommended by BMW are met with this fluid. Fluid improved shifting and performance at half the cost of traditional BMW OEM fluid.

This CVT Fluid worked perfectly in a 2018 Chevrolet Spark.
Size: 5 Quart Jug
This fluid is fantastic. I bought a 2018 Chevrolet Spark with 30K miles and had a bad transmission shudder. Drained the transmission, cleaned-out the pan, and replaced the filters. Old fluid was black and this is a clear green. I loved the jug as it had a pop-up spout that was small and easy to pour, and the jug has a side handle. Transmission works great and the shudder is gone. I plan to change the filters and fluid again after 1K miles. This fluid is well worth the money!
