Lady Palm

Lady palm has a layered, almost Oriental look - different from most other South Florida palms.

A graceful palm for garden areas that allow it room to spread out, this palm grows multiple thin trunks topped with fronds like little green umbrellas.

Even though lady palms are clustering, they grow so slowly they're easily controlled and won't get away from you. Their rounded shape gives an appealing formal yet tropical appearance.

  • You can clean up the base if you like the tall, Oriental umbrella look, or leave the palm full to the ground.
  • The Lady palm has moderate to low light requirements.
  • The lady grows slowly to an ultimate height of about 8 to 10 feet. Sun or shade is fine, though in a shady spot, the fronds keep their best deep green color.
  • Lady palms are moderately cold tolerant - best when grown in Zone 10 or in Zone 9B in a protected area.

Caring for a Lady Palm involves several important steps to ensure its health and beauty:

    1. Sunlight: Lady Palms thrive in bright, indirect light. Place your palm in a location that receives filtered sunlight or partial shade. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

    2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water your Lady Palm thoroughly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot. During winter, reduce watering frequency slightly as the plant's growth slows down.

    3. Humidity: Lady Palms prefer high humidity levels. Mist the leaves regularly with water or place a humidifier nearby to create a humid environment. This helps prevent the tips of the leaves from turning brown.

    4. Fertilization: Feed your Lady Palm with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer specifically formulated for indoor plants. Apply the fertilizer every two to three months during the growing season (spring and summer). Follow the package instructions for proper dilution and application.

    5. Pruning: Remove any yellow or brown fronds as they age or become damaged. Trim off any dead or brown leaf tips to maintain the plant's appearance. Avoid excessive pruning, as it can stress the palm.

    6. Pests: Monitor your Lady Palm for common pests like spider mites and mealybugs. If you notice any infestations, treat them promptly with an appropriate insecticidal soap or neem oil spray.

    7. Repotting: Lady Palms generally prefer to be slightly root-bound, so repotting is not often necessary. However, if the plant becomes too large for its current pot, repot it in a slightly larger container using well-draining soil. Repotting is best done in spring.

    8. Cold Protection: Lady Palms are sensitive to cold temperatures. If you live in a region with occasional cold snaps, protect the palm by covering it with frost cloth or bringing it indoors during extreme cold spells.

By following these care guidelines, you can ensure that your Lady Palm remains healthy, vibrant, and a beautiful addition to your indoor space. Regular attention to watering, light, and humidity will help your palm thrive for years to come.

Great passport storage for a family of 4!
This passport travel wristlet was perfect of or family of 4 to use while traveling. It was large enough to keep all of of our passports inside and also travel documents. I love that the material is fire resistant, but the material is slightly tacky b/c of that. Not a big deal for me, but something worth noting. I don't mind the material b/c it gives me peace of mind when storing my passports inside that if there is a fire, our passports will be protected. Overall, I think this is a great option to safely store and travel with your passports!

This will be great at the airport for international flights
Wow. This has pockets for four passports; six pockets that will easily hold 18 credit, debit, insurance, membership, library... cards; photo id slot, mesh pocket for monetary notes or some change; a large inside zippered area perhaps for personal items; another full length pocket behind the credit cards for paperwork and a slot on the front fo boarding passes, the passport, phone, whatever. This is going to be so handy for an international trip, keeping passport(s), boarding passes, itinerary, phone and more all together and very easily accessible. With all these card slots, I may start carrying it on a daily basis with my phone in it. I've never before found a wallet that could hold all the cards I'd like to be carrying every day; but have to swipe out depending the day's destination; because there's no room for them all in a phone or standard wallet. The surface feels rubberized with a good grip. It's light weight and the detachable strap is definitely appreciated. What a help this will be to stay organized. Being fireproof and RFID blocking are excellent bonuses.

    Fire Resistant Maybe, Not Fireproof
This small passport holder/bag from Ready Now Bags is quite unusual, it claims to be fireproof! We tested it with a lighter flame and the 'fireproof' claim initially seemed to hold up: a few seconds of direct flame on one spot had no effect on the main outside material of the bag or on the zipper material. It did cause the [nylon?] fabric running across the top of the outside pocket to start melting, and presumably the tag would also melt (as another reviewer found). My wife didn't like the bag anyway, so we decided to try a more rigorous test (initially I was hesitant, because I didn't want to ruin the bag). We put a spot in the middle of the back side of the bag in a direct candle flame for 30 seconds. It did not melt or catch fire and was only a bit degraded in appearance after the soot was scrubbed off. The inside of the bag in the area where the flame had been was hot, but not too hot to touch. We repeated the 30 second candle flame test on a corner of the bag. This time the corner of the bag caught fire after about 20 seconds (specifically, the piping material around the edge), and the fabric part of the zipper melted all the way through. I haven't tried lighting other hand bags on fire, so I'm not sure how an average one would compare, but I think 'fireproof' is too much of a claim, it may be fair to say this bag is 'fire resistant'. The material is neat and I would say attractive. Note that the bag is pretty thin [8.9in x 4.8 in x 0.7in], which is perfect for some purposes but you can't cram a lot of stuff into it. I don't know whether the RFID block works, but it doesn't seem to impede a cellphone signal at all when a cellphone is placed inside the bag (tested before fire tests). The construction quality of the bag is just okay, it's a little bit uneven/wrinkled around the edges; this material is probably difficult to work with. No functional problems, though. The pockets and slots for organizing on the inside of the bag are nice. The loop on the back that the hand strap is attached to is pretty thick and seems robust, you could attach a longer strap for shoulder or neck carry if desired. If the bag was only advertised as 'fire resistant' I would give it a higher score, but it is advertised as 'fireproof' which is quite an overclaim.
