  • Mahone Bay

Mahone Bay is famous for its churches, which are apparently painted regularly.

    image

They are kind of pretty at night.

    image

But the town is also kind of creepy at night because we visited during their scarecrow festival.

    image

Some of the scarecrows are definitely supposed to be scary.

    image

But others, like this giant cod, are unintentionally creepy, especially at night.

    image

The fisherman is also kind of scary.

    image

And the town founders are super creepy, even during the day.

    image

We didn’t take any pictures at night because we were too scared.

    image

The clowns are just kind of weird.

    image

These Jack-o-lanterns are not going to make it to Halloween.

    image

I’m not sure if this crow was supposed to be scary or not.

    image

These Frozen characters were definitely not supposed to be creepy. But sad, understuffed Olaf in the dark is very creepy.

    image

The big bad wolf is supposed to be scary. But red riding hood probably isn’t. She has a more normal face, so it’s not as bad in the dark.

    image

The astronaut has a more normal face, but it hangs out above you.

    image

    This mermaid is very creepy.

    image

These witches are probably supposed to be scary but aren’t.

    image

The deadfaced dolls are much scarier.

    image

    Even when they are Canadian.

    image

These pirates are kind of goofy.

    image

    They were almost Kerri’s favourite.

    image

But ice cream head man was the best.

  • Peggy’s Cove

We went to Peggy’s Cove to see the lighthouse.

    image

Matt thinks Kerri should stop overprocessing things because we are in Nova Scotia now, and that aartiisteesticness belongs in New Brunswick.

    image

Nova Scotia aartiisteuesticness is more like this.

    image

But Matt thinks we should stop aartiisteuestying before Kerri runs out of vowels.

    image

But Canada’s most photographed lighthouse is pretty boring without the aartiisteouestyic vision.

    image

Besides, Matt made us drive far far away before the sun set, so that we wouldn’t hit a moose. Therefore the sun is too bright in most of the pictures. So the aartiyisteouestycness is necessary.

  • Fishing Museum

This is the skeleton of a 25lb lobster. It would have made a good Thanksgiving dinner.

    image

This is the claw of the biggest lobster. It would have made a good dinner on its own.

    image

This is a very ugly fish.

    image

    This is his skull.

    image

He is as ugly on the inside as he is on the outside.

    image

    Matt went onto a boat.

    image

    Multiple boats actually.

  • Joggins Fossil Cliffs

We stopped at the Joggins fossil cliffs to see fossils. These are from well before the dinosaurs. Before even the big mammal-like reptiles like dimetrodon. They mostly only had big amphibians like this guy.

    image

Look at his skin and his little teeth!

    image

And some random bones, because most fossils unfortunately aren’t cute.

    image

They also have tons of weird footprints.

    image

They have a really weird shape.

    image

These ones are even weirder though. They come from a giant millipede that could grow up to 2m long. Kerri and Matt are only 1.8m long.

    image

Then we went out onto the actual cliffs to find our own fossils. Because the cliffs face the tides of the bay of Fundy there is a lot of erosion every day. So most of these have never been seen before. But they are almost all plants.

    image

Random bits of trees tucked between the rocks.

    image

    Or tree-sized giant horsetails anyway.

    image

    This might have been something.

    image

This was definitely once something, but we have no idea what.

    image

This was a giant tree like thing except that it’s actually related to the clubmosses.

    image

Which are not giant tree-like things but tiny mossy things. The past was weird.

    image

    This was also something.

    image

This was the base of another giant tree-like thing. Most of the reptiles and amphibians have been found inside of these, where they had burrows.

    image

This might have been a thing.

    image

This is more giant club-moss bark-like outside thing.

    image

This is a maze, to demonstrate how some species go extinct and others make it. Kerri went extinct on her first try.

    image

But because Matt refused to participate Kerri got two tries. Because that’s how extinction works. And the second time she made it to the middle without going extinct.
