  • Social Weavers

Social weavers are birds that all live together.

    image

    They make giant complex nests.

    image

There are many entrances in the bottom, while the top is completely covered.

    image

Here’s what the birds actually look like.

    image

They spend quite a bit of time bringing new twigs to add to the complex.

    image

Having all the entrances facing down keeps the snakes out.

    image

They seemed to move often from hole to hole so the homes may only be for the night or more permanent if nesting.

    image

Sometimes they bring more than just dried twigs to add it. Maybe for some decorations inside.

  • Burchell’s Zebra

Here’s a new subspecies of zebra. They are totally different from all the other zebra we’ve seen.

    image

They have some lighter lines amongst the dark lines.

    image

They still generally travelled in single file when on the move.

    image

There were a few young ones around, not where it was still brown but still nursing.

    image

Their legs have more brownish stripes, but that’s about all when can tell the difference from previous zebras.

  • Etosha Jackels

There were lots of puppies in Etosha.

    image

The guinea fowl were not too happy about all the puppies and didn’t trust them.

    image

Here the hungry puppies were grabbing what’s left of an elephant.

    image

The smart puppies used the road construction as additional shade.

    image

    Oh, I’ve been spotted.

    image

    Quickly run away!

  • Etosha Night Game Drive

We did another night game drive in Etosha except this time the floodlight was red. Which made everything look much creepier.

    image

There was also no moon, so everything was really dark without the light.

    image

So it’s really hard to figure out what most of the pictures were even of.

    image

Even the dik diks look demonic.

    image

And this might have just been the ghost of a giraffe.

    image

But we saw stuff that would have been scary even without the light, Like 10 black rhinos with two big male lions watching them.

    image

We also saw a spring hare. I’m not sure why I put that in the scary section, but it was the best picture we have of the night.

    image

We also saw lots of spotted stuff, including this spotted jennet.

    image

We also saw a spotted eagle owl, a spotted thickney, and lots of spotted hyena. And a night jar.

    image

Don’t let this lion give you nightmares.
