The Australian Zoo had lots of birds.
Most of them did not belong in Australia.
But they were pretty anyway.
This black cockatoo does belong here.
So does this emu. Australian birds tend to have weird hair.
This is why you don’t mess with emus.
These eagles are also native. We saw all kinds of them flying around Australia.
They are pretty birds.
And not at all scary.
They look sleeker without their neck feathers ruffled.
This is a considerably better picture of a condor than we managed to get in South America. They should really train the wild ones to pose for the camera.
This is a hawk owl, which doesn’t have a flat face like most owls.
Their cassowaries were sitting down, which looks really funny with their legs sticking out.
These weird turkey things were mostly wild.
This is a kookaburra.
They sit on the power lines and make really crazy cackling noises.
This is a bush stone curlew.
He has ridiculously long legs, which look funny when it sits down.
He doesn’t even wade with them, he lives in the bush eating bugs and reptiles and seeds.
These turkey things were wild.
And looked really funny digging nests.
The ibises are awfully big to be stealing scraps from tables.
This guy is very small and cute.
