We went on a hot air balloon ride through the Serengeti at sunrise.
We watched them fill up the balloon.
The pilot was Canadian.
We had to sit sideways in the basket while waiting for it to take off.
The balloon blew around in the wind while it was filling.
The pilot went inside the balloon to check that it was OK.
Then we were up.
We floated over a pair of lions. These were the first male lions we had seen.
They had been doing controlled burns of the park and hadn’t had much rain this week so there were alternating black and gold patches.
There was a small pond full of hippos.
There were also lots of antelope.
The antelope did not like the noise from the hot air balloon and ran away.
(Insert video)
They ran slower than we expected them to.
There was one sleepy hyena.
And tonnes of zebras.
And many ostriches.
The wildebeests also didn’t like the hot air balloon.
(Insert video,)
They looked really funny running.
Really really funny.
But not as funny as the ostrich.
The ostrich was faster than the wildebeests and overtook them.
We did see one herd of elephants but they really did not like the hot air balloon and ran away as soon as they saw it coming. Before it even made noise.
The Serengeti is mostly flat but there are mountains at the edges.
The hippos didn’t like the hot air balloon either and tried to scare us off.
It worked, we blew away quickly.
The flamingos also flew away when we approached
It was a very pretty ride.
